Job Description


We are seeking a highly motivated data center professional to join the Computing Infrastructure Solutions department as a Computing Infrastructure Engineer, reporting to the department manager\. The department provides enterprise level computing and data center functions at Sandia/California including infrastructure, compute and storage\. The team develops and deploys virtual and cloud computing technologies to continually improve the agility and quality of IT services for an increasingly mobile and collaborative workforce\. Major projects within the group include data center modernization and consolidation, as well as disaster recovery and business continuity\. The data center modernization effort is a transformational project that will shape IT and data center services for years to come\.

The selected candidate can expect to perform a diverse set of technical and operational tasks:

+ Manage and administer data center infrastructure, including physical, virtual and disaster recovery servers and storage system environments\.
+ Oversee classified virtual desktop backend infrastructure hardware including compute and storage\.
+ Work closely with other teams across a wide spectrum of disciplines including cloud, networking, high performance computing, and cyber security to ensure a robust, secure, and reliable IT environment\.
+ Provide inputs to data center modernization project team to shape data center architecture for classified computing infrastructure\.
+ Act as an advisor to the team and assist in coordinating infrastructure changes\.
+ Serve as technical SME and contributor in lab\-wide IT initiatives representing the California site\.
+ Drive excellence in overall technical performance of information systems\.


+ B\.S\. in computer science, engineering, information systems, or relevant STEM discipline plus five or more years of experience; **or** master's degree in relevant discipline plus two or more years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience\.
+ Minimum 3 years of experience in system administration, any combination of Microsoft Windows, Linux or Unix
+ Active and current DOE Q security clearance


+ Deep expertise with virtual desktop deployments including VMware and Citrix Provisioning Services
+ Experience with administration and management of servers and storage systems that provide enterprise wide services, preferably in Microsoft, VMware or Linux environments
+ Experience with virtualization technologies, such as VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper\-V platforms
+ Experience with system monitoring and management tools such as Splunk, SCCM, Veeam One, and vROps
+ Experience with scripting & programing languages such as PowerShell, Python, Ruby
+ Knowledge of network architecture i\.e\. TCP/IP, fiber channel, and software defined networking
+ ITIL v3 Foundation certified and/or experience preferred e\.g\. Incident Management, Change Management, Service Level Management
+ Experience working in and operating a physical data center facility including cabling, power distribution, airflow management, etc\.
+ Experience effectively prioritizing and executing tasks in a constantly changing environment
+ Experience working in a continuous improvement environment
+ Understanding of Agile, Lean, and DevOps methodologies
+ Strong analytical and organizational skills
+ Effective verbal and written communication skills
