Job Description

:

We are seeking a R&D Laboratory Support Technologist to work as an integral part of this team providing calibration, testing and maintenance services for the Neutron Generator Enterprise\. This position also requires a combination of some previous hands\-on experience and relevant training covering a diverse range of technical disciplines\. The successful candidate must be able to work in a high rigor, schedule driven production environment and be able to demonstrate excellent time management skills\. The positions also require very strong equipment diagnostic and problem solving skills, along with a technical aptitude related to metrology and equipment maintenance\. Experience performing corrective maintenance for manual and computer controlled precision electro\-mechanical equipment is desired\. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and provide recommendations to resolve calibration, maintenance and repair issues, generate certificates and reports, write calibration procedures, and work with the engineering staff to make procedural improvements\. The work requires the use of a metrology database and data acquisition software\. Formal and on\-the\-job training will be available for the selected individual\. A participative selection process will be used\.

The Sandia Calibration and Maintenance Team \(Dept\. 02573\-1\) is responsible for the calibration and maintenance of the product acceptance testers, in\-process testers and process equipment used for neutron generator production\. This group also supports the design and development activities associated with new equipment\.

Required:

+ Associate’s degree or above; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience\.
+ Two or more years relevant work experience
+ Experience in these areas; working in a lab or production environment, using or maintaining complex measurement and processing equipment and reading drawings and schematics
+ Able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-Level security clearance

Desired:

+ Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or similar STEM discipline
+ Experience evaluating, assembling, disassembling and trouble\-shooting complex, computer controlled equipment down to the board and component level
+ Experience performing calibrations of precision measurement equipment
+ Demonstrated experience working independently as well as part of a team
+ Evidence that the candidate is a pro\-active worker with past experience negotiating schedules with customers and delivering to those agreements
+ Experience assembling, modifying, operating and maintaining high vacuum systems and related equipment including measurement gauges \(e\.g\. RGAs\) cryogenic pumps
+ Demonstrated experience and desire for complying with safety requirements
+ Active DOE Q\-Level security clearance

Department Description:

The Calibration & Maintenance Team is an approved calibration and maintenance provider for the Neutron Generator Enterprise \(NGE\)\. This team is responsible for the calibration and maintenance of equipment that supports the NGE mission of providing neutron sources for national security\. It is also the responsibility of the Calibration and Maintenance Team to provide efficient and timely services which include onsite calibration, predictive and preventative maintenance, and all aspects of corrective maintenance\.

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.

This Limited Term Employee \(LTE\) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years\.
