Job Description


We are seeking a R&D S&E, Systems Engineer interested in joining the B61\-12 Surveillance Team\. The Surveillance Team will be responsible for developing the sustainment surveillance program which asserts that the weapon continues to meet its design requirements during the production and sustainment phases\. The successful candidate will team with the B61\-12 Systems Engineering teams and multiple Product Realization teams in chairing the technical investigations \(Significant Finding Investigations\) into production and design related anomalies that are suspected of impacting the health of the stockpile\. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for working with the Technical Basis Realization Team \(TBRT\) to develop and manage the Performance Evaluation Test Unit \(PETU\) Surveillance strategy\. \(The PETU program involves returning stockpile for destructive testing in order to address knowledge gaps on the stockpile\.\)

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Work with a high performing and cohesive team of Surveillance Engineers, Weapon System Engineers, and System Test Engineers and Technologists\.
+ Conduct measurement and analysis R&D, system and test design, systems engineering, data collection, data analysis, and reporting\. Tests are carried out at The Weapons Evaluation Test Laboratory in Texas and at the Tonopah Test Range in Nevada\.
+ Use systems engineering principles and processes to ensure delivery of high quality engineering solutions for high consequence tests of national importance\.
+ Use engineering experience and design knowledge to ensure a strong link between system performance requirements, testing, and analysis computations\.

Moderate domestic travel \(~15%\) is required\.


+ Bachelor’s degree and advanced degree \(Master’s or PhD\) in engineering, mathematics or science; or Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics or science plus 4 years relevant experience in lieu of an advanced degree
+ Experience with collection and analysis of signals such as voltages and current, pressure, acceleration, strain, timing, and temperature sensors
+ Experience and knowledge in Systems Engineering


+ Experience assessing compliance to requirements from data and analysis
+ Experience planning and executing technical projects
+ Current DOE Q, DoD TS, or active DOE Q within the past 5 years
+ Experience assessing compliance to requirements from data and analysis
+ In\-depth knowledge of Nuclear Weapon Systems
+ Demonstrated ability to team across disciplines
+ Ability to solve problems in a highly collaborative environment
+ Ability to discover, understand, and articulate customer needs
+ Experience managing interfaces, requirements, and integrated testing
+ Experience with software programming, in languages such as Python, LabVIEW, C\+\+, or MATLAB

Department Description:

The primary mission of Air Delivered Weapons Integrated Stockpile Evaluation Department, 2251, is to conduct assessment of stockpile nuclear weapons\-\-specifically bombs and cruise missile warheads\. Department members plan, execute, analyze and report the laboratory and flight testing of air delivered weapon systems\. Assignments require an understanding of technical performance of the weapon, the test configurations, and project management\. We are a multi\-disciplinary group that collaborates with our sister organizations across the Nuclear Weapons Enterprise and the DoD for the successful execution and analysis of system tests of national importance\. We are the agile provider of all surveillance data/information throughout the lifecycle of weapon systems to support and enable stockpile decisions\.
