Job Description


As a Facilities Electrical Engineer, you will play a significant role in helping to operate and maintain existing buildings and utility systems across the site in support of strategic objectives of both Sandia National Laboratories and the Department of Energy\. Our facilities engineers make a big impact by helping to operate and coordinate maintenance of equipment, such as medium voltage power distribution, lighting and lighting control systems, fire alarm systems, gas safety systems, low voltage power panels, and uninterrupted power systems\. Responsibilities range from providing electrical engineering facility design and installation support for new systems to maintenance, operations, repairs and upgrades of existing systems\. As a facilities electrical engineer, you will be able to develop and implement maintenance programs as well as troubleshoot equipment issues, perform electrical calculations, including arc hazard analysis, breaker coordination, energy/load balancing of electrical power equipment, protective device coordination, specifying electrical equipment and components\. You will have the opportunity to provide electrical engineering support to Facilities Maintenance, Project and Construction Managers\.


•Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering plus five or more years experience\.

•Ability to obtain certification as a Professional Engineer \(PE\)\.

•Familiarity with the National Electrical Code and/or California Electrical Code\.

•Ability to make decisions requiring scientific or engineering judgment\.

•Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion\.

•Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high\-pressure environment\.

•Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills\.

•Must be able to obtain and maintain a U\.S\. Department of Energy security clearance\.


•Pursuit / completion of an advanced technical degree in electrical engineering or closely related field\.

•Knowledge / experience in facilities design and construction industry best practices and standards\.

•Demonstrated advanced computer skills including experience with AutoCAD\.

The Engineering team provides facilities operations and engineering solutions & support for the CA site\. This includes collaborating with customers, responding to building issues, and maintenance planning\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
