Job Description


We are seeking an Electromechanical Technologist to join a multidisciplinary team that is designing and sustaining advanced components, subsystems, and systems for national defense programs, homeland security, and nondefense applications\. These engineering teams employ state\-of\-the\-art technologies, including sophisticated software tools for design, analysis, modeling, and simulation\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Troubleshoot discrete component technology, integrate current technology into legacy systems, develop procedures and documentation, and set\-up and calibrate equipment\.
+ Work regularly with PC\-based control systems, electric drive systems, syncro/servos and encoder systems\.
+ Operate a wide range of technical equipment related to analyzing and diagnosing problems encountered with TTR mission systems;
+ Operate, maintain, upgrade, and trouble\-shoot optical tracking mounts and support remote field testing as required
+ Integrate equipment upgrades utilizing the most recent advances in optical sensors, drive control systems, signal processing and recording\.
+ Team within a diverse group of personnel comprising the optics and radar team, and responsible for mission systems to the Chief Engineer and the Range Manager

**This position requires individuals to live in either Tonopah or Las Vegas, NV\.**

**This position requires individuals to remain away from home in a remote location 4 days and 3 nights\.**


+ High School Diploma plus two \(2\) years of verifiable and directly relevant experience in Electronics, Electro\-Mechanical, Engineering discipline, or other technical discipline\.
+ Experience with operation of electrical and mechanical systems, including installation, testing, repair, and maintenance\.


+ Field experience\.
+ Basic understanding of gimbal technology, optical sensor systems, and electrical control systems and their components
+ Demonstrated ability to work in both a team and independently in a dynamic work environment while demonstrating and maintaining professional work behaviors
+ Ability and willingness to work under structured Work Planning & Controls process
+ Ability to work under high\-stress settings and meet tight deadlines
+ Good written\- and verbal\-communication skills, including the development and delivery of presentations, proposals, and reports
+ Strong interpersonal skills, including teamwork, time management, initiative, conflict resolution, ability to take instruction/direction, and critical problem\-solving skills
+ Vocational\-Technical Certificate in a relevant mechanical or electrical concentration area, and/or an Associate’s degree in a relevant technical field
+ Analog and/or fiber optic cable design and fabrication experience
+ Field test experience
+ Experience with optical tracking mounts
+ Ability to read and understand basic electrical\-mechanical specifications
+ Proven experience in conducting systems research to recommend solutions on problems affecting systems or equipment
+ Ability to prepare basic systems or equipment performance tests and reports
+ Demonstrated ability to operate, troubleshoot and repair to component level of mechanical and electrical systems

Department Description:

Department 2295 operates the Tonopah Test Range for the National Nuclear Security Administration under Sandia’s Prime contract\. The Department consists of 20 Sandia personnel and 35 contractors responsible for the technical operations associated with the nuclear weapons flight test mission and the maintenance of a 280 square mile integrated test range facility with an instrumentation suite of precision tracking radars, telemetry ground stations, optical tracking mounts, meteorological data systems and numerous pieces of support, test and communications/network equipment and fiber optical infrastructure\.

Work location is primary at the Tonopah Test Range and the normal work week is Tuesday through Thursday, 13\-14 hours a day\. Deviations to the normal schedule occur to facilitate mission requirements and may require personnel to remain away from home 4 days and 3 nights or possibly longer at a remote location\. Work schedules may change as required to meet organizational needs\.
