Job Description


We are seeking an Intern Year Round \- Technical High School

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Support Department of Defense \(DOD\) and National Nuclear Security Administration \(NNSA\) projects
+ Assist with project design
+ Assist with testing and overall project support


You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Attending a local high school
+ Enrolled full time, as defined by the school
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0
+ Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ Minimum 16 years of age
+ U\.S\. citizenship

Additional requirements:

+ Must be planning to pursue an undergraduate education in an engineering field
+ Ability to work year\-round at Sandia National Laboratories Albuquerque location


+ Proven record of scholastic achievement
+ Familiarity with Microsoft Office

Department Description:

The High Consequence Robotic System Department performs applied research, development, integration and application of high consequence robotic and intelligent systems\. The Department specializes in the development and delivery of advanced, high\-surety robotic, security, and weapon systems\. Systems developed to date include nuclear weapon component handling and disassembly, artillery shell disassembly and retirement, remotely\-controlled security weapons, and automated live weapon storage\. The Department has developed, integrated and deployed more than 25 high consequence robotic, automated and intelligent systems for the DOE and DoD since the middle 1990s and is a leader in developing cost\-effective, reliable, automated systems to handle materials used in conventional and nuclear weapons\. Leveraging the high\-consequence design and control principles used in these systems, we have developed other applications that require the same level of robustness and safety, including Remotely Operated Weapons Systems \(ROWS\) technology, explosives automation, and guided bullet technology\. Applied research and development is performed in the areas of microassembly, nanomanipulation, near human presence and admittance control\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
