Job Description


The Advanced RF Applications department is seeking a highly motivated Product Design Engineer to participate in the research, development, troubleshooting and field testing of advanced RF/Microwave, Radar and Communications systems for high impact and high consequence national security applications\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Initiate, design, develop, execute, and evaluate new processes, products, or systems for implementing and integrating engineering solutions\.
+ Produce designs, models, and product definition of complex objects\.
+ Determine product requirements based on user needs\.
+ Use CAD application software to develop electrical or mechanical design concepts\.
+ Create the design definition documentation utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing \(GD&T\) ensuring that the design can be effectively manufactured and inspected\.
+ Evaluate design options using optimization techniques\.
+ Specify materials, equipment, and supplies required to complete product development and may evaluate vendor capabilities to provide required products or services\.
+ Establish and review design methods and procedures and prepares design specifications, analyses, and recommendations for presentation and approval\.
+ May provide the necessary documentation to successfully deploy the product in the field\.


99. BS degree in Mechanical Engineering\.
99. Experience with mechanical design and fabrication\.
99. Experience with 3D mechanical CAD tools\.
99. Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing \(GD&T\)\.
99. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance\.


99. Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering\.
99. Strong critical thinking and problem\-solving skills\.
99. Solid Works and/or CREO proficiency\.
99. Experience designing, testing, and fielding products\.
99. Solid modeling and structural mechanics exposure\.
99. Motivated to contribute to meaningful national security programs\.
99. Ability to work independently and on a multi\-disciplinary team\.
99. Good oral and written communication skills\.
99. Current and active DOE Q\-level security clearance\.

Department Description:

The Special Radars and Communications department focuses on the design, development, deployment, and support of specialized RF systems in support of a variety of DOD and government agencies\. A particular area of expertise is the development of miniature RF devices for long range TTL\. Our devices operate in extremely challenging environments, where GPS will not function and other infrastructure may not be available\. Airborne, ground\-based, and space\-based TTL systems designed and fielded by SNL build upon decades of radar designs for nuclear weapons and SAR\. Our personnel travel to all points on the globe with our customers to ensure mission success\. These direct user and engineer interactions have allowed us to gain a unique perspective of the CONOPS and TTPs enabling us to incorporate critical concepts into our next generation solutions\. Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
