Job Description

:

The Trusted and Secure Systems department is seeking a highly motivated Product Design Engineer to participate in the research, development, design and troubleshooting of advanced control and communication systems for high impact and high consequence national security applications\. We create design concepts for new systems and modernization efforts for all aspects of the life\-cycle design process from model creation through simulation and analysis\. We apply research to the design, development, analysis, and testing of mechanical and electromechanical systems\. We analyze the ability of systems to withstand stress imposed by conditions such as temperature, load, and vibration\. We are accountable to produce designs that fully meet form, fit, and functional requirements for our Nation's security programs\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Initiate, design, develop, execute, and evaluate new processes, products, or systems for implementing and integrating engineering solutions\.
+ Produce designs, models, and product definition of complex objects\.
+ Determine product requirements based on user needs\.
+ Use CAD application software to develop electrical or mechanical design concepts\.
+ Create the design definition documentation utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing \(GD&T\) ensuring that the design can be effectively manufactured and inspected\.
+ Evaluate design options using optimization techniques\.
+ Specify materials, equipment, and supplies required to complete product development and may evaluate vendor capabilities to provide required products or services\.
+ Establish and reviews design methods and procedures and prepares design specifications, analyses, and recommendations for presentation and approval\.
+ May provide the necessary documentation to successfully deploy the product in the field\.

Required:

99. Bachelor & Master degrees in Mechanical Engineering; a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering plus three years directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a master’s degree\.
99. Experience using CAD software for 3D solid modeling and mechanical drawing generation\.
99. Experience applying first order analysis and simulation tools\.
99. Ability to obtain DOE Q\-level security clearance\.

Desired:

99. Understanding of product design lifecycle\.
99. Experience using Solidworks or PTC\-Creo software for mechanical engineering design\.
99. Understanding of configuration management principles\.
99. Evidence applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance \(ASME Y14\.5\) specifications and performing tolerance analyses\.
99. Experience with heat transfer modeling and evaluation\.
99. Demonstrated successful teamwork with excellent communication skills\.
99. Proven record of demonstrating initiative and getting results\.
99. Strong leadership skills with a desire to be involved in product design and development\.

Organization 5327, The Trusted & Secure Systems department focuses on the development of secure and aware command, control, and communications functions for terrestrial, airborne, and space based systems that are critical for national security applications\. Representative system components include those necessary for protection of high value assets, various point\-to\-point, static and dynamic C2 architectures, and situational analyses requiring compact operating systems and processing\. The development and integration of resilience, confidentiality, integrity, and availability is necessary for high reliability systems critical for national security missions\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
