Job Description

:

We are seeking a R&D Laboratory Support Technologist to be an integral member in the Microwave Project in the Sandia National Laboratories Primary Standards Lab\. This individual will be responsible for the calibration and certification of RF / Microwave standards, as well as measurement and test equipment for NNSA Standards Laboratories and Sandia Line Organization customers\. In addition, metrologists are expected to assist in developing new measurement techniques and procedures, provide training to our customers, and participate in surveys and audits for the NNSA\. This position requires problem solving skills, a high technical aptitude, and offers the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills related to metrology and calibration spanning a broad range of measurement areas, systems and equipment, methods, and procedures\. The selected individual will operate and maintain computer controlled calibration systems and will be expected to develop and provide recommendations to resolve calibration issues and to improve calibration efficiencies\. This position involves generating certificates and reports, developing and maintaining written procedures, and working with the project leader to make improvements\. The work requires the use of metrology database software and data acquisition software\.

Required:

+ Associates degree in Electrical/Electronic engineering
+ Experience working with high\-precision electrical test and measurement equipment

+ Experience working in a high\-rigor, high quality lab environment in accordance with all procedures, policies, and practices
+ Strong interest in measurement standards activities
+ The ability to assemble, disassemble and trouble\-shoot complex measurement systems
+ Good teamwork and communication skills are necessary since you will work closely with department engineers, other technologists, and customers\.
+ The ability to develop effective processes and procedures and effectively communicate these to others
+ Experience in a laboratory environment and willingness to safely work around mitigated hazards while following all applicable ES&H protocols is a must
+ Computer skills commensurate with the duties listed above
+ Evidence of high academic performance
+ A Bachelors Degree in an engineering related field or physics is preferred
+ Experience in high precision calibrations, particularly in RF / Microwave measurements
+ Experience in developing related methods, processes, technical work documents and procedures along with software
+ Experience with error analysis and uncertainty calculations
+ Experience interfacing personal computers with measurement and test equipment
+ Experience programming computer controlled equipment using MetCal, LabView, or Visual Basic
+ Experience using large, integrated software applications such as Maximo
+ Experience with Lean Six Sigma and/or ISO 9001 methodologies
+ Experience with ISO 17025

Department Description:

Department 9143, Primary Electrical Standards, provides calibration support to the Nuclear Security Enterprise, including support for SNL research and production organizations\. Department 9143 consists of three project groups: DC Electrical, AC Electrical, and Microwave\. Each project develops and maintains primary standards, consults on measurement problems, calibrates reference standards, and assists in technical oversight of the DOE/NNSA Nuclear Weapons Complex contractor standards laboratories\. The overall calibration program is accredited by the NIST National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program\.
