Job Description


We are seeking an R&D S&E Systems Engineer within the W88 ALT 370 Technical Basis and Qualification Department \(Org\. 2334\) to join the qualification team in support of the flight testing qualification activities\. The selected candidate will join the existing team to support the planning and execution of the qualification flight tests, and will be part of a tightly integrated team working to design, develop, qualify, and produce the W88 ALT 370 weapon system\.

On any given day you may be called on to:

+ Perform requirements verification and evidence collection, analysis and documentation, RB design integration activities, integrated testing and hardware acceptance, and test planning\. Flight test mission success is heavily centered around teaming, communication, presentation of technical and logistics data, and coordination with customers and partners both within Sandia and externally\.
+ Have logistical engagement with a broad array of field personnel involved with flight scheduling, hardware delivery, field coordination, and technical engagement with experts in environmental analysis, design definition, and component engineering within Sandia and with our partner agencies in support of the flight test program\.
+ Work within the technical and cooperative leadership venues utilizing strong teaming and communication skills\.

This position has exciting growth opportunities and is an integral part of our overall qualification effort for the W88 ATL 370\. This position will also include a variety of interactions across the program, including coordination with partner organizations across the laboratory and external interaction with the Navy, NNSA, LMSSC, LANL, APL, and other agencies\. In this role, there is significant opportunity for leadership development, and the successful candidate will be given the opportunity to engage in leadership development activities both independently and as part of the larger team\.

Some travel will be required to support development, test and program needs\.


+ Bachelor’s and Advanced degree \(Masters or PhD\) in an engineering or science discipline; a bachelor’s degree in STEM plus four or more years relevant experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree\.
+ Active DOE Q security clearance or DOD Top Secret clearance


+ Experience in electrical design, electrical/functional testing and/or analysis\.
+ Experience in systems engineering of complex systems\.
+ Experience with NW component or system design, development or production\.
+ Experience with Navy flight test programs\.
+ Ability to work independently and in a team environment showing initiative and leadership\.
+ Motivation to work with a large integrated Systems team with broad interaction\.
+ Must be able to apply strong interpersonal and communications skills working with a diverse team ranging from skilled laborers to PhD engineers/scientist\.
+ Demonstrated ability to plan and execute technical work\.
+ Ability to negotiate competing requirements to give the best system\-level outcome\.
+ Ability to discover, understand and articulate constraints, options, paths\-forward\.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills\.
+ Commitment to operational safety, security and quality\.
