Job Description

:

We are seeking a Product Design Engineer

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Apply technical judgment based upon engineering principles in the design and development of innovative products for Sandia National Laboratories\.
+ Utilize creativity to formulate design concepts that meet the form, fit, and functional requirements for new product concepts\.
+ Use Computer Aided Design \(CAD\) software to mathematically represent the physical attributes of the product\.
+ Determine the physical characteristics of the product to be manufactured including geometric form, interface features, manufacturing specifications, processes, and assembly instructions\.
+ Use physical and computational simulation, analysis, and design trade studies as inherent activities of product development\.
+ Ensure design feasibility from a manufacturing and product maintenance perspective\. Communicate the design options and recommended approach to product development teams, stakeholders, and manufacturing partners\.

Required:

+ Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or relevant STEM discipline; or 8 years relevant Engineering and Operations experience, as equivalent;
+ Experience in design of printed circuit boards requiring interface definition and design for manufacturability constraints;
+ Experience with printed circuit board design tools\.

Desired:

+ Understanding of IPC and industry standards and specifications for printed circuit board design;
+ Experience with Mentor Graphics tools;
+ Experience with PCB manufacturing techniques;
+ Understanding and application of configuration management principles for change management and engineering authorization;
+ Experience mentoring other individuals;
+ Understanding of the correlation and interaction between nuclear weapon components;
+ Demonstrated experience in leading teams of four or more individuals;
+ Confident communication skills both oral, and written, for communicating design intent;
+ Strict adherence to the policies and procedures governing the creation and sharing of sensitive design information;
+ Strong desire to be deeply involved in product development and realization;
+ An active DOE granted Q\-level security clearance;
+ Knowledge of SNLs design definition standards\.

Department Description:

Electrical Design Department \(2279\) is responsible for providing knowledgeable and capable resources to develop and create ECAD product definition for Nuclear Weapons \(NW\) and Strategic Partnership Projects \(SPP\) programs\. The department's unique capabilities include design capture and physical layout of Printed Circuit Boards for both the analog and digital regimes, multi\-chip modules using Low Temperature Co\-Fired Ceramic Technology \(LTCC\), Flex and Rigid Flex Cables and Printed Circuit Boards; and, interacting with vendors to procure quick turn prototype circuit boards\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
