We are seeking an Intern Summer \- Technical Undergrad

The Building & Fire Safety Department within the Facilities and Emergency Management Center is looking for a summer undergraduate engineering student to support fire protection engineers in evaluations and projects\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Perform field inspections
+ Evaluate various hazards
+ Research codes and standards
+ Initiate corrective actions
+ Have exposure to the many aspects of planning, constructing and maintaining facilities for success of our National Security Programs

Required:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Currently attending and enrolled full time \(or scheduled to graduate in the spring\) in an accredited undergraduate program
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0
+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U\.S\. citizenship

Additional Requirements

+ Must currently be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in engineering \(e\.g\., Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, etc\.\)

Note: If you have not yet started your undergraduate program, please apply to a high school intern position\.

+ Demonstrated ability to team across disciplines
+ Ability to conduct research, investigate alternative solutions, and recommend solutions
+ Working knowledge of MS Office\-type software applications related to assignment \(e\.g\., MS Word, Excel and Access\)
+ Knowledge of fire and combustion sciences

Department Description:

The Building & Fire Safety Department at Sandia National Laboratories \(SNL\) is responsible for interpreting and enforcing Building Codes and managing the Corporate Fire Protection Program; serves as Sandia's delegated Building Official for all construction matters and Sandia’s delegated Fire Code Official for all fire protection matters; and serves as Sandia's Facility Policy owner\. In these broad roles, the department develops corporate policy and implementing plans, processes and procedures to efficiently and effectively meet regulatory and contractual requirements\. SNL's physical infrastructure includes approximately 190,000 acres of land and accommodates approximately 1000 government\-owned buildings totaling 7\.5 million gross square feet\. The department's oversight responsibility for fire protection includes SNL site operations in California, Nevada, and Hawaii\. The Department of Building and Fire Safety is committed to protecting workers, the public, the environment, and property from fire and its related hazards\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance\.
