Job Description


The ISR Mission Engineering Department \(05349\) is seeking early to mid\-career Radar Systems Engineers to provide fundamental RF skills in the research and development of advanced radar systems, hardware and software design, and mission engineering\. The selected candidate must have the ability to travel approximately 15% of the time\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Contribute to innovative radar systems design, analysis and integration\.
+ Evaluate radar system performance and phenomenology\.
+ Participate in formal program reviews\.
+ Define, flow, and trace product requirements\.
+ Develop Concepts of Operation\.
+ Develop test and qualification plans\.
+ Shape or guide research activities to support program needs\.
+ Document technical research using configuration management and collaborative environment tools\.
+ Troubleshoot problems and support anomaly resolution activities\.
+ Serve as a technical interface to other design and support organizations\.
+ Serve as a Sandia representative on multi\-organizational project teams\.


99. Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in electrical engineering or other graduate degree in science or mathematics with experience in electromagnetic sensing systems\.
99. Understanding of/Experience with the fundamentals of signal processing, 3D Geometry and electromagnetism\.
99. Experience with Matlab for modeling and analyzing systems\.
99. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance\.


99. Experience with Radar System hardware, software, systems analysis, and scattering phenomenology\.
99. Experience with electrical, electronics, and mechanical foundations to review designs with Mechanical, Electronics, Microwave, and RF Engineers\.
99. Python and C, C\+\+ software experience\.
99. Experience with Geographic Information System \(GIS\)\.
99. Ability to understand mathematically complex systems, develop and analyze models, and draw concise conclusions from them\.
99. Passion for field test work\.
99. Experience interacting with military personnel and protocol\.
99. Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment that sometimes requires quick problem\-solving skills\.
99. Demonstrated ability to work in multi\-disciplinary teams\.
99. Experience leading teams of people\.
99. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively both internal and external to the organization\.
99. Comfort with a position of technical leadership and the responsibility to make decisions and support them\.
99. Experience in preparing, publishing and presenting technical information including patents
99. Good technical communications skills \-\- in conversation, presentation, and writing
99. Critical thinking skills and the ability to determine root cause failure in complex systems
99. Ability to work well with others with a positive attitude
99. Active DOE Q\-level or DOD TS clearance\.

Department Description:

The Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance \(ISR\) Mission Engineering Department, 5349, provides multidisciplinary system\-level and mission engineering in support of ongoing and future Airborne ISR missions\. Missions can include multiple Radar sensor modes such as spotlight, dual\-resolution, and video synthetic aperture radar \(SAR\); coherent change detection \(CCD\); multi\-look imaging; and ground moving target indication \(GMTI\)\. The department is responsible for the design, oversight and delivery of full\-up systems for a wide variety of applications, operating environments and customers\.
