Job Description


We are seeking a Reliability Engineer\. Organization 9413, System and Component Reliability, has opportunities for Reliability Engineers to perform reliability assurance and assessment activities for multiple systems and/or components\.

On any given day, you may be called upon to:

+ Apply a range of reliability engineering and analysis methods in support of national security program decisions\.
+ Interact frequently with component/system design, surveillance, quality and other surety assessment organizations in performing these functions\.
+ Perform reliability engineering analyses on components and systems throughout the entire lifecycle of design, development, production, and fielded hardware maintenance/storage\.
+ Maintain an awareness of issues and communicate risks relating to reliability, participate in investigations of potential defects and/or performance issues, identify evolving data needs for reliability predictions and assessments, track testing from various sources, integrate data appropriately into reliability analyses, provide input for the annual NNSA Weapons Reliability Report and assist product realization teams \(PRTs\) in reliability assurance \(i\.e\., improving inherent reliability of complex systems\)\.


+ Master's in engineering, applied mathematics, or relevant discipline\.
+ Experience in applying analytic methods to evaluate the performance of engineered components\.


+ Personal initiative, responsiveness, and excellent attention to detail\.
+ Good communication, teaming, and critical analysis skills\.
+ Experience with physics of failure, fault tree or root cause analyses\.
+ Experience with a variety of reliability test methods\.
+ Experience with design or production of high\-consequence products\.
+ Experience or training in nuclear weapons design, testing, modeling, or assessment\.
+ Experience in probabilistic modeling, Monte Carlo methods, statistical data analyses, or margin analyses\.
+ Experience in applying reliability theory and a range of reliability analyses across a product’s lifecycle\.
+ Experience with integrating data from multiple sources\.
+ Experience in applying the results of engineering models for mechanical, electrical, or other physics properties to reliability models\.

Department Description:

System and Component Reliability Mission: our primary mission is to provide reliability analyses on behalf of the NNSA to the Nuclear Weapons Program\. We provide independent reliability predictions and assessments on nuclear weapon components, subsystems, and systems throughout the conceptual design\-to\-retirement life cycle\. Our reliability engineering and assessment capabilities support other programs and products both internal and external to Sandia\. We create and adapt a suite of probabilistic reliability models to keep abreast of design and technology changes\. We consult with design and surveillance teams on the reliability and related statistical issues associated with design, test, and operational decisions\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
