Job Description


We are looking for an entry level or mid\-career R&D Electrical Engineer\.

Job Specification: The COTS Electronic Component Engineering organization 02634 has an immediate opening for an electronic component engineer to support WR \(War Reserve\) and WR related programs\. Commercial\-off\-the\-shelf \(COTS\) electronic piece parts are selected and characterized to meet the demanding performance specifications and reliability requirements of WR applications\. The successful candidate with work with design engineers to understand the electronic performance requirements and with test engineers and other subject matter experts to develop testing and qualification plans\. The job will require close coordination with the test lab personnel to evaluate component performance\. Job responsibility includes working closely with the National Security Campus \(NSC\) counterparts to develop product definitions and ensure components are procured and qualified according to directive schedules\. Some travel for business\.


+ Advanced degree \(Master's or PhD\) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or relevant engineering discipline plus Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics \(STEM\) discipline; or a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or relevant engineering discipline along with 5 or more years relevant experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree\.
+ Experience in performance and reliability requirements for different types of passive and active electronic components \(e\.g\., resistors, diodes, ICs, etc\.\)
+ Knowledge of testing techniques for electronic components
+ Able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance


+ Experience in the identification of suitable electronic parts and development of appropriate qualification test processes to ensure parts meet specified requirements
+ Experience with radiation effects testing for microelectronics and semiconductors
+ Experience in the implementation of test plans in accordance with military & JEDEC standards
+ Knowledge of semiconductor device physics
+ Active DOE security clearance

Department Description:

The COTS Electronic Component Engineering Department \(02634\) is responsible for the identification, characterization, and qualification of commercial electronic components proposed for use in High\-Reliability Sandia National Laboratory applications\. The department is responsible for providing information regarding electronic components and their suppliers, conducting environmental and reliability tests, and performing long\-term surveillance testing for our system/subsystem design customers and our Production Agency partners\. Other core competencies include supply chain assurance, component compatibility with manufacturing processes assessment, and test process development to evaluate the suitability of COTS electronic components proposed for use in High\-Reliability applications\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
