The Validation & Failure Analysis R&D manager leads the department \(5255\) responsible for test, yield improvement, failure analysis, and product reliability for MESA’s microelectronics, MEMS, and optoelectronics products for Nuclear Deterrent \(ND/NW\) and Strategic Partnership Programs \(SPP\)\. Department 5255 is a service organization and succeeds by bringing the best skills and work ethic to the table\. We are seeking a technical, programmatic, and personnel manager for this department\.

The successful candidate will be a self\-directed and customer focused individual who has strong interpersonal, teaming, leadership, and analytical skills\. The manager will lead a high performing team in the validation, reliability analysis, and failure analysis of MESA’s products meeting demanding performance and reliability specifications\. The manager will work with the department's and center's staff as well as our internal and external customers to set the research and development agenda, support external program development, prioritize production activities, and enable high\-quality execution of the department's R&D and production programs\.

On any given day, you may be asked to:

+ Lead the team in delivering with excellence and energizing the staff to achieve this vision
+ Ensure the team is robust, agile, and well\-suited for all the department's technical challenges
+ Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering on commitments and managing expectations
+ Adaptably manage department resources to align with Center \(Division and Laboratory\) priorities
+ Collaborate across the Center and Laboratory and with external customers to develop, market, and win research and development opportunities which support current and future missions and customer needs and then serve as the project/program manager
+ Build effective trust based partnerships across Sandia, with sponsors \(internal and external\), and with industry partners
+ Provide production planning and execution, including developing computer\-based process controls for process improvement and eliminating errors
+ Develop programs by presenting at conferences and meetings as well as writing proposals
+ Contribute to all aspects of Sandia’s Microelectronic/Microsystem validation, reliability and failure analysis activities for NW and SPP customers
+ Ensure ES&H compliance\. The manager runs 16 labs and prepares 12 safety cases yearly


99. Bachelor’s and Master's Degree in a relevant STEM field; or Bachelor's degree in STEM plus 4 years of relevant experience\.
99. In addition to the education requirements above, 8 years of related technical experience is required\.
99. Two years’ experience managing projects and leading teams\.
99. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance\.


99. Personnel/line management experience\.
99. Advanced STEM degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Physics/Materials Science\.
99. Demonstrated interpersonal skills in developing trust based relationships among peers, staff, management, and customers\.
99. Significant program development experience, including securing new business partnerships\.
99. Understanding of microelectronics design and semiconductor processes\.
99. Experience with the successful development, qualification, and delivery of high reliability products\.
99. Understanding of Sandia's financial and Strategic Partnership Program \(formerly WFO\) processes\.
99. Record of managing and/or leading process improvement efforts\.
99. Active DOE Q\-Level security clearance\.
99. Active SCI clearance\.

Department Description:

Sandia National Laboratories Microsystems, Engineering and Science Applications \(MESA\) complex provides a unique capability in providing microsystems for a variety of high consequence applications\. The Microelectronics Reliability, Failure Analysis, and Validation Department \(5255\) is responsible for test, yield improvement, failure analysis, and product reliability for MESA’s microelectronics, MEMS, and optoelectronics products for both internal and external customers\. We meet these responsibilities by developing and employing state\-of\-the\-art capabilities and techniques in functionality and reliability tests, failure analysis and counterfeit detection, and reliability engineering\. We perform our work in a fast\-paced, multi\-project, team environment requiring extensive customer interaction\. The department currently has 18 technologists and technical staff members supporting activities that are focused on, though not limited to, the Nuclear Deterrent \(ND/NW\) and Defense Systems & Assessments \(DS&A\) customers and supports both MESA’s development/realization and production missions\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
