Job Description


We are seeking an Intern Year Round \- Technical Undergrad

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Execute receipt and quality inspection processes associated with incoming materials used in nuclear weapons development and production activities
+ Assist with the verification of quantities, evaluating inspection methods and interpreting inspection results to assess compliance to requirements
+ Perform work with engineering staff to resolve and disposition non\-conformances
+ Perform analysis of technical data, prepares reports, and summarizes data reporting purposes


You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Attending a local high school
+ Enrolled full time, as defined by the school
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0
+ Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ Minimum 16 years of age
+ U\.S\. citizenship

Additional Requirements:

+ Pursuing a BS degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical or related engineering discipline with evidence of high academic achievement
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy \(DOE\) Security Clearance
+ Ability to work at the Sandia National Laboratories Albuquerque site


+ Posession of well\-developed interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to work in a diverse team environment\.
+ Experience with inspection methods and interpreting results\.
+ Excellent oral communication and technical writing skills with the ability to develop and present ideas and results in oral and written form\.
+ Basic knowledge of quality management systems and Lean Six Sigma/continuous improvement tools and their application\.
+ Candidate should be very detail oriented and be able to count various quantities of incoming and outgoing parts in an error\-free manner\.

Department Description:

The Inventory Management and Logistics Value Stream Department \(IMLVS\), Org\. 2715, oversees bonded stores and materials operations that support the Neutron Generator \(NG\) Enterprise and other NW production partners\. IMLVS works in a high\-consequence operational envelope encompassing classified materials, precious metals, closed areas, chemicals, explosives, and radioactive materials\. The organization is responsible for assuring the integrity and traceability of weapons material though the logistics supply chain which includes receiving, incoming acceptance, warehousing, inventory management, material movement and shipping\. IMLVS is responsible for the design, development, testing, and delivery of Department of Transportation \(DOT\) compliant packaging solutions, operations engineering and planning for the build of packaging kits and NG disassembly activities, and oversees the planning, coordination and execution of outbound customer shipments\.

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.

Sandia will conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications\. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U\.S\. Air Force background screen for access to the work site\.
