This role offers the opportunity to collaborate in a multi\-disciplinary environment and to plan and execute critical analyses to solve materials forensics challenges and identify future research opportunities\. Additional opportunities include the development of a more fundamental or broader understanding of the process in question and exposure to a large variety of problems faced by the NW complex, allowing you to bring your talents to bear in solving these problems\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Develop new methodologies or tools for measuring gas, liquid, or solid compositions and their impurities
+ Conduct and support research to further the understanding of materials aging, decomposition, or interaction with other materials
+ Learn about a variety of processes and products and select appropriate analytical tools to evaluate those processes and products
+ Communicate effectively with customers to determine their analytical measurement needs, design protocols, collect data, and provide reports
+ Collaborate with other team members to produce publications for peer\-reviewed journals and presentations for conferences
+ Travel to support research and to present at conferences

Required:

+ PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment in Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science or other related natural science field
+ Experience with separations \(gas and liquid\) and detectors \(mass spectrometry, FID, TCD, UV/VIS\)
+ Good communication skills as evidenced by a history of publication of results in peer\-reviewed journals and external presentations at appropriate scientific conferences
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE L clearance
