The COTS Electronic Component Engineering organization 02634 has an immediate opening for an electronic component engineer to support WR \(War Reserve\) and WR related programs\. Commercial\-off\-the\-shelf \(COTS\) electronic piece parts are characterized and selected to meet the demanding performance specifications and reliability requirements of WR applications\. The successful candidate with work with design engineers to understand the electronic performance requirements and with system engineers and subject matter experts to develop testing and qualification plans\. The job will require close coordination with the test lab personnel to evaluate component performance\. Job responsibility includes working closely with the National Security Campus \(NSC\) counterparts to develop product definitions and ensure components are procured and qualified according to directive schedules\.


+ Advanced degree \(Master's or PhD\) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or relevant engineering discipline plus Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics \(STEM\) discipline; or a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or relevant engineering discipline along with 5 or more years relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a advance degree
+ Experience in understanding performance and reliability requirements for electronic components, identifying suitable commercial\-off\-the\-shelf parts, and developing appropriate qualification test processes
+ Able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance


+ Experience working within the WR system
+ Familiarity with the WR COTS Insertion Process \(WRCIP\)
+ Component engineering experience including familiarity with military standards, JEDEC standards, etc\., which govern production of electronic piece parts
+ Knowledge of semiconductor device physics
+ Experience with radiation effects in microelectronics and semiconductors
+ Component electrical test methods and equipment
+ Supply chain management to avoid counterfeit parts
+ Active DOE Q\-Level security clearance

Department Description:

The COTS Electronic Component Engineering Department \(02634\) is responsible for the identification, characterization, and qualification of commercial electronic components proposed for use in High\-Reliability Sandia National Laboratory applications\. The department is responsible for providing information regarding electronic components and their suppliers, conducting environmental and reliability tests, and performing long\-term surveillance testing for our system/subsystem design customers and our Production Agency partners\. Our core competencies also include supply chain assurance, component compatibility with manufacturing processes assessment, and test process development to evaluate the suitability of COTS electronic components proposed for use in High\-Reliability applications\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.

This Limited Term Employee \(LTE\) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years\.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance\.
