Job Description


We are seeking an Intern Alternate Schedule \- R&D Grad

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Plan and execute test system modifications, test plans, and testing for the APOLLO program to characterize high temperature and pressure switched\-bed regenerators
+ Design and specify high pressure components, electrical power systems, control systems, and fluid flow systems using engineering skills and reporting concepts such as piping and instrumentation diagrams \(P&IDs\)
+ Execute test system modifications including both direct work on control system software and wiring and oversight of others' work assembling pressure components and electrical power wiring
+ Participate in experimental design and data analysis for thermal\-hydraulic components, and journal\-quality reporting of process and results


You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Earned bachelor's degree
+ Graduate student at an accredited university
+ Enrolled full time in a science, engineering, or math program during the academic term immediately preceding the internship
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0
+ Active student status
+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the internship \(maximum of one academic term and adjacent summer\)
+ U\.S\. citizenship

Additional Requirements:

+ Proficient in creating and interpreting piping and instrumentation diagrams
+ Proficient in LabView programming of control systems
+ Competency using computer\-aided drafting tools \(i\.e\. Solidworks, Pro\-E, Unigraphics, AutoCAD\)
+ Competency using procedural programming languages \(i\.e\. Matlab, Python, Fortran, C\)
+ Competency using Engineering Equation Solver \(EES\)


+ Familiarity with supercritical carbon dioxide test systems
+ Experience writing or contributing to journal\-quality publications
+ Proficient in creating and interpreting control system electrical diagrams
+ Proficient in creating and interpreting control system I/O listings

Department Description:

The Advanced Nuclear Concepts Department is responsible for the development of advanced nuclear reactors and associated energy conversion technologies\. The department currently has programs in advanced nuclear applications for commercial and space nuclear power sytems\. The department is currently leading a DOE research program to develop efficient hydrogen production methods suitable for use with advanced high temperature reactors\.

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.

Sandia will conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications\.
