Job Description


We are seeking a highly motivated and team oriented component engineer to support the newest CA Nuclear Weapons Life Extension Program \(LEP\)\. The candidate must show strong aptitude for verbal and written communication\. We expect to hire someone who can bring their talents to a multidisciplinary team and work collectively to address challenging national security problems\. This position requires significant travel to New Mexico and Kansas City, Missouri\.

We are looking for an engineer to:

1\. Support the design, feature development, integration, testing and manufacture of novel woven fiber composite structures\.

2\. Work with a manufacturing partner on developing production ready drawings, process development and component qualification for full scale production\.

3\. Work with systems engineering on component integration, interfaces and assembly\.

4\. Develop and execute a test plan to test a component’s expected life cycle mechanical stress, including shock, vibration and assembly stress\.


+ MS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related
+ Experience with composite design and fabrication
+ Experience with hands on pre\-preg composite layup, bagging and cure
+ Experience developing and interpreting mechanical drawing
+ Experience with CREO, CAD, MatLAB and/or SolidWorks
+ Experience writing technical documents outlining experimental results and conclusions
+ Experience with and understanding of geometric design and tolerancing \(GD&T\)


+ Experience supporting multi\-site, high visibility engineering programs with high rigor/high consequence products
+ Experience with mechanical test equipment, instrumentation and product qualification
+ Experience working with production agencies and external customers

Department Description:

The Weapons Subsystems 3 designs, prototypes and supports mechanical weapon subsystems for high consequence applications requiring exceptionally high confidence, quality and reliability\. These projects support a broad mission space including assets that are critical to U\.S\. national security\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
