Job Description

:

The NW ASIC Product Realization R&D manager _\(Manager, R&D Science and E MG\)_ leads the department \(5254\) responsible for the development and production of Application Specific Integrated Circuits \(ASICs\) for the Nuclear Deterrent, including the B61\-12 LEP, W88\-ALT, W87/Mk21 Fuze and W80\-4 programs\. The department is responsible for creating, tracking and reporting on the budgets, schedules, risks and variances of the programs to both internal and external customers\. The department works with the Major Component \(MC\) organizations to develop the ASICs and across Center 5200 to produce them\. The department is one of only a few at Sandia that has both a realization and production missions\.

The successful candidate will be a self\-directed and customer focused individual who has strong interpersonal, teaming, leadership, and analytical skills\. The manager will lead a high performing team in the design, development, qualification, and delivery of ASICs designed to meet demanding performance and reliability specifications and stringent survivability requirements in adverse environments\. The managers principal responsibility is the on\-time delivery of ASICs for the Nuclear Deterrent \(ND\) programs and maintaining strong relationships with our internal and external customers and suppliers\. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-Level security clearance\.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

+ Leading the team in delivering with excellence and energizing the staff to achieve this vision\.
+ Ensuring customer satisfaction by delivering on commitments and managing expectations\.
+ Managing department resources and coordinating across the center to ensure on\-time, on\-budget deliveries meeting quality objectives\.
+ Evaluating and leading R&D projects to develop new opportunities to support current and future missions and customer needs\.
+ Building effective trust based partnerships across Sandia, with sponsors \(internal and external\), and with industry partners\.
+ Contributing to all aspects of Microelectronics/Microsystems at Sandia\.

Required:

+ Bachelors and Master's Degree in a relevant STEM field plus 8 years of relevant experience; or Bachelor's degree in STEM plus 12 years of relevant experience;
+ Two years’ experience managing projects and leading teams\.
+ Experience with the successful development, qualification, and delivery of high reliability products\.

Desired:

+ Personnel/line management experience\.
+ Advanced STEM degree\.
+ Demonstrated interpersonal skills in developing trust based relationships among peers, staff, management, and customers\.
+ Experience realizing NW systems, component, or subsystems, including familiarity with realize product procedures \(RPPs\), NW Quality standards, and/or delivery of Mark Quality products or system knowledge\.
+ Knowledge of analog, digital, or mixed signal integrated circuit design\.
+ Understanding of semiconductor processes and radiation effects on semiconductors\.
+ Record of managing and/or leading process improvement efforts\.
+ Experience successfully managing multi\-million dollar projects, preferably using Earned Value Management Systems \(EVMS\)\.

Department Description:

Sandia National Laboratories Microsystems, Engineering and Science Applications \(MESA\) complex provides a unique capability in providing microsystems for a variety of high consequence applications\. The Nuclear Weapon \(NW\) Product Realization department \(5254\) focuses on the design and delivery of digital, analog, and mixed signal application specific integrated circuits \(ASICs\) to the nuclear deterrence community\. The department engages in the full NW ASIC product realization process beginning with customer engagement and requirements definition through to Mark Quality \(diamond stamped\) product delivery\. The department partners across the center to design and manufacture ASICs and partners across the laboratory with NW Systems, NW Major Components \(MCs\) and Sandia External Production \(SEP\) to deliver ASICs that meet mission goals\. It is one of the few organizations in Sandia that has both Design Agency \(DA\) and Production Agency \(PA\) responsibilities\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
