On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ The postdoctoral appointee will work as a member of the team performing R&D on sensors and systems\. Duties include assisting in numerical simulations, laboratory measurements, prototype development, and field testing\.


+ PhD in in optical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a closely related field\.
+ Experience in experimental demonstration of optical, photonic, optoelectronic, or plasmonic devices\.
+ Experience in design, simulation, fabrication and testing of photonic or optical systems\.


+ Experience with optical laboratory testing using sources, detectors, and relevant test equipment\.
+ Proficiency with software programming and instrument control in languages such as C/C\+\+/C\#, and MATLAB\.
+ Experience modeling in Wave Train\.
+ Ability to work across disciplines, and to solve problems in a highly collaborative environment\.
+ Familiar with theory and application of laser beam propagation through the atmosphere\.
+ Familiar with theory and application associated with imaging through turbulence\.
+ Experience with adaptive optical systems\.

Department Description:

The SOF and Tactical Physics Department performs research and development of sensing and imaging systems and other applications of optical physics phenomena and materials for national security applications\. We exploit scientific advances and engineering technologies across a broad spectrum \(THz to IR to UV\) to enable advances in components and systems for national security\. We engage with technologically savvy users to mature technology from concept to laboratory demo to prototype\. In addition, the department serves as the principal Sandia point of contact and as independent advisors for US Special Operations Forces\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance\.
