Job Description

:

We seek R&D Computer Scientists to work on vibrant, high\-productivity teams in an innovative and collaborative learning environment\. Successful candidates will develop security software and integrate security into software during the course of design and development\.

On any given day, you may be called upon to:

+ Work with a team of developers in the creation of secure software tools
+ Take a leadership role in software design, implementation and testing
+ Develop a company\-wide software security strategy
+ Facilitate meetings and workshops to define client processes and needs
+ Create new software systems or forensic tools
+ Participate in the lifecycle development of software systems using agile methodologies
+ Design and build proof of concept prototype solutions
+ Institute programming techniques that are free from logical design and technical implementation flaws
+ Gain a thorough knowledge of attack vectors that may be used to exploit software
+ Leverage attack tools to test your work for software vulnerabilities
+ Counsel your colleagues on secure programming practices
+ Research/identify flaws and remedy development mistakes
+ Document the secure software development lifecycle
+ Support software deployments to customers

Required:

+ Bachelor's and Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or relevant discipline\.
+ Software design, engineering and development, including familiarity with modern software development practices and tools\.
+ Programming experience in C\+\+, C, Java, Python, or a related language\.

Desired:

+ Strong academic performance \(i\.e\. GPA of 3\.5/4\.0 for undergraduate degrees, and 3\.7/4\.0 for graduate degrees\);
+ Knowledge of and experience with implementation of the full software development life cycle using iterative or agile methods;
+ Experience with of software security;
+ Experience with of complex algorithms and data structures \(including optimization techniques\), design patterns, and software engineering principles\.
+ Experience with of current state of the art infrastructure automation and continuous integration and deployment techniques\.
+ Experience with cloud computing services \(Amazon Web Services/Google Cloud Environment\)\.
+ Experience with agile software development methodologies\.
+ A strong mathematics background, either through work experience or formal education\.
+ Strong teamwork skills and effective interpersonal and communication skills\.
+ Demonstrated ability to team in a collaborative, interdisciplinary R&D;
+ Critical thinking, synthesis and problem\-solving; ability to deal with ambiguity and adapt to a fast\-paced, customer\-focused operation;
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test\.

Department Description:

The Secure Information Systems department plays a key role in defending Sandia against internal and external cyber\-attacks\. It is a significant contributor to the establishment and advancement of Sandia's Application and Data Security Program and capabilities, providing a systematic security focus to information systems or applications developed or acquired at any point in the software development lifecycle\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
