Job Description


We are seeking a Student Intern \- R&D Grad Summer to join the Navigation Guidance and Control \(NGC\) II Department\.

You will perform work within a science and engineering team environment involving graduate level assignments, which may include:

+ Research application of project design and diagnostics
+ Algorithm development for Navigation, Guidance, and Control Technologies
+ Software Development
+ Hardware Development
+ Simulation Development
+ Testing and documentation
+ Development and analysis of technology options
+ Assembly and troubleshooting


You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Earned bachelor's degree
+ Currently attending and enrolled full time \(or scheduled to graduate in the spring\) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0
+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U\.S\. citizenship

Additional Requirements:

+ Currently studying towards a graduate degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering or related engineering/science major
+ Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
+ Have coursework, interest, motivation and experience that provide the foundation to develop an expertise in one or more of the following areas in support of prototype missile and hypersonic reentry vehicle applications; navigation, guidance, control, modeling & simulation, embedded software development or systems analysis
+ Demonstrated Programming skills \(e\.g\. EXCEL, MATLAB, Simulink, Java, Fortran, C/C\+\+, or equivalent\)
+ Intermediate skill level using Microsoft Office \(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook\)
+ Strong documentation skills
+ Ability to work onsite in Albuquerque during Summer 2018


Have experience or significant interest in:

+ Hands\-on experience through lab research, project teams, prior internship or work experience
+ Ability to take initiative and be inquisitive
+ Modeling/Simulation and analysis
+ Experience with version control tools
+ Knowledge, experience, or interest in Navigation, Guidance, and Control technologies such as GPS, IMU, trajectory design/optimization, TVC, ACS, Modeling/Simulation, Nonlinear Dynamics and Control, and flight software & hardware development

Department Description:

The Navigation Guidance and Control \(NGC\) II Department 05427 provides technology solutions and support to both Offensive and Defensive Military Systems development projects within the Integrated Military Systems Program at Sandia\. Hardware and software technologies are developed, integrated, and tested to provide flight control solutions for missiles and hypersonic reentry platforms\. Typically, these systems support the Missile Defense Agency, Army, Navy, and other Department of Defense Agencies\. Our programs cover a broad spectrum of applications; from advanced aerodynamically controlled vehicles dropped from aircraft, to maneuvering hypersonic warheads, to ballistic missile systems\. All of the activities require the extensive use of real time embedded computers and custom real\-time software for the realization of affiliated fully\-integrated flight control system solutions\. The NGC group is significantly involved in modeling and simulation activities in support of these same application areas as well as activities for the Sandia Space Mission Program\. The department strives to provide leadership to the Laboratory and the Nation in the creative development, use, and application of both NGC and mod/sim technologies\. Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance\.
