Job Description


We are seeking a LAN/WAN Support Technologist to fill the role of a networking specialist for the CA site\.

The successful candidate will support the access layer of the network including:

Intermediate Distribution Room \(IDR\) management and maintenance,

Day to day access layer management, including hardware upgrades and maintenance,

And fiber optic maintenance in support of Sandia’s communications infrastructure\.

The position will also have occasional COMSEC \(Communications Security\) duties in support of networking\.

The successful candidate will be integrated with the networking team to provide superior support for the California site\.


• Support operational capabilities with facilities, including design support and IT integration\.

• Work with lifting equipment, cable pulling methods and equipment

• Comfortable with relevant testing equipment and the safe use of portable power and hand tools\.

• Work effectively with fiber optic installation and testing, including fiber optic termination

• Experience and ability to organize and dress communication cabling\.

• Troubleshoot circuits and equipment and make recommendations regarding networking equipment and systems\.

• Work effectively both as a team member and independently

• Effectively communicate with all customers/coworkers to include active listening, verbal and written communications\.

• Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE “Q” clearance\.


• DOE Security Clearance is desired \(Foreign Nationals will not be considered for this position\)\.

• Associate’s degree in the Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or other relevant field of study awarded by a nationally recognized educational institution\. Four years directly related experience may be considered in lieu of an Associate’s degree\.

• Cisco Certified Network Associate \(CCNA\) Certification, or applicable networking certifications\.

• Certified Fiber Optic Technician \(CFOT\) Certification

• Familiarity/experience with Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies, including LAN and WAN\.

• Experience and demonstrated skill in product evaluation, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting systems and equipment

• Experience with IP data network architecture and network monitoring software

• In\-depth networking experience, Cisco preferred\.

• Copper and fiber optic cable distribution system O&M knowledge and experience\.

• Experience in the operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair for all the above equipment\.

• Current and Active DOE Q\-level security clearance\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
