Job Description


We are seeking an Early/Mid Career\-level R&D Computer Scientist to join one of our existing scrum development teams working on the design, implementation and deployment of satellite ground station software\. You will work in a highly collaborative and agile team environment to incrementally plan, build and demonstrate working software directly with our mission customers\. You will be responsible for managing your commitments, your time and your career growth within the context of a supportive and enabling environment\. You will participate in daily scrum meetings where you will report your progress and work to resolve team impediments\. You will write effective unit\-level tests for all of the code that you produce and you will know immediately if your latest changes \(or the changes of your teammates\) have "broken the build"\. You will have opportunities to participate in training that will improve your skills and your ability to contribute to the project\. You may participate in technical investigations or perform tradeoff analysis utilizing either formal methods, prototyping, or industry research to either characterize candidate technologies against a set of architectural drivers, needs and features; or to discover new uses for existing technologies\. You may be asked to present your experiences and research to your team, to your project or to your organization\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Design, implement and test Java, C\+\+ and/or Python software to address commanding, monitoring and tasking of satellite sensors
+ Work both as a team member and individually to translate customer and user needs into custom software solutions that are peer reviewed, tested, verified, and integrated and ultimately deployed into operations
+ Participate in scrum planning meetings, daily stand\-ups, sprint and iteration demos and retrospectives

Identify and implement solutions to software problems with our currently fielded systems\.


+ Bachelor's and Master’s degree in computer science or related discipline; or Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline plus four years of relevant software development experience\.
+ Experience with object\-oriented software development and modern programming languages \(Java, C\+\+ and/or Python\)
+ Experience with Linux\-based software development\.


+ Demonstrated experience collaborating as a member of team with effective interpersonal and communication skills\.
+ Experience implementing and adopting the use of Agile techniques for software development \(SAFe and Scrum\)\.
+ Experience working on large\-scale software development projects and/or prior experience with satellite and remote sensing systems\.
+ Experience with several of the following technologies: Git, Artifactory, Jenkins, Amazon Cloud, Docker, Kubernetes, ZeroMQ, JSON\.
+ Active Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted Q\-level security clearance\.
+ Active SCI clearance\.

Department Description:

The Systems Design and Architecture Department designs, evaluates, and develops complex, high\-performance software architectures for processing and exploitation of remote sensing information for high\-consequence national security missions\. Our team invents, analyzes and implements the frameworks, infrastructure and algorithms that support real\-time extraction and classification of static and dynamic events from a variety of very challenging data streams from pathfinder remote sensing assets\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
