Job Description


We are seeking an Intern Summer \- R&D Undergrad

The RISE intern institute is targeted towards students who are interested in developing a wide range of technologies that will enhance, protect, or transform Sandia’s national security mission and IT enterprise

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Use the scientific method to recognize and formulate problems
+ Develop or demonstrate new designs, concepts, materials, machines, products, processes, or systems
+ Create and apply scientific theories, laws and engineering methods
+ Team with others to support Sandia's mission by adding value, improving operations, offering innovative solutions and appropriately managing risk for the corporation
+ Deliver results in line with project milestones based on education background and status
+ Pair with R&D staff members and teams working on LDRD or mission\-focused projects across the Laboratories


You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Currently attending and enrolled full time \(or scheduled to graduate in the spring\) in an accredited undergraduate program
+ Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0
+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U\.S\. citizenship

Additional Requirement:

+ Experience with relevant software development languages \(Java, C/C\+\+, Python, C\#\.NET, Meteor, etc\)


+ Experience with big\-data, analytics or data mining
+ Experience in developing software for distributed real\-time processing of sensor data
+ Experience in data visualization or image processing
+ Experience with Container Technologies \(e\.g\. Docker, Mesos, Kubernetes, etc\)
+ Relevant experience in scientific/engineering data processing
+ Experience in real\-time data processing
+ Experience in developing software for Cloud Platforms \(e\.g\. AWS, OpenStack\)
+ Experience with Agile development methodology \(SaFE/Scrum\)

Department Description:

RISE actively recruits undergraduate and graduate school students majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS, CIS, and other relevant disciplines\. Designed for students interested in Cyber Security, Mission Computing, Enterprise application design and Information Technology; RISE provides students a broad exposure to Sandia projects and culture and also a network of other top university students\. RISE students are part of a Sandia program, Technical Internships to Advance National Security \(TITANS\), which offers students valuable cross\-exposure to projects in other TITANS tracks sponsored by the Center for Cyber Defenders \(CCD\), Monitoring Systems and Technology Intern Center \(MSTIC\), Interns for Security, Arms Control, and Force Protection Engineering \(iSAFE\), and Center for Analysis Systems and Applications \(CASA\)\.

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.

Sandia will conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications\. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U\.S\. Air Force background screen for access to the work site\. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment\.
