Job Description


We are seeking an innovative Mission Scientist to work within multi\-disciplinary teams to develop signature models and phenomenology\-optimized sensing solutions for the Remote Sensing and Verification \(RSV\) business area\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

• Support signature data collection and analysis efforts\.

• Develop complex, multi\-physics signature and sensor phenomenology models\.

• Collaborate with systems and sensor engineers to optimize remote sensing concepts for target signatures and sensor phenomenologies\.

• Develop signature exploitation tools that refine remote sensor data into actionable intelligence products\.

• Develop presentations, simulations, white papers and proposals for internal and external customers\.


• Master’s degree in Physics or a Science or Engineering Discipline relevant to national security signatures and sensor phenomenology\.

• Experience modeling signatures or sensor phenomenology using Matlab\.

• Demonstrated ability to develop and present ideas and results in oral and written form\.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment\.


• Advanced degree in Optical Engineering or Electrical Engineering\.

• Experience or education in satellite remote sensing systems or phenomenology\.

• Experience or education in satellite data exploitation centers\.

• Experience using Simulink and Stateflow\.

• Current TS/SCI

Security Clearance:

Position requires a SCI security clearance\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\. This Limited Term Employee \(LTE\) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years\.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance\.
