Job Description


The Electromagnetic Theory Department is seeking an R&D S&E, Physics candidate with a background in electromagnetic plasma analysis, including experience in areas such as high\-voltage breakdown, pulsed power applications, and systems effects in ionizing\-radiation environments\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Work on a broad variety of projects associated with Sandia Laboratories Nuclear Weapons Science and Technology programs including nuclear\-weapon analysis, Advanced Strategic Computing, and research and development\.
+ Team with other developers, analysts, and experimentalists\.


+ Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, physics or closely\-related discipline and PhD degree in electrical engineering, physics or closely\-related discipline, with a specialization in electromagnetic\-plasma theory or simulation\.
+ Publications or presentations demonstrating experience with developing or using numerical simulations to better understand plasma phenomenon\.
+ Experience in data analysis and post\-processing\.


+ Experience in both theoretical analysis and computational simulation using commercial or customized software\.
+ Willingness to develop expertise in different areas of electromagnetics
+ Strong mathematical and simulation background with demonstrated knowledge and experience in electromagnetic\-plasma analysis\.
+ Experience with High Performance Computing architectures and execution\.
+ Experience programming in scripting \(shell, python, etc\.\) and C\+\+\.
+ Demonstrated ability to work with others and contribute to a team effort\.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills\.
+ Willingness to be flexible in job assignments\.

Department Description:

Department 1352 is a multidisciplinary research group that conducts theory and simulation to support the Department of Energy's NNSA Defense Programs\. The primary areas of research include analytic theory and modeling in linear and non\-linear electromagnetics, plasma physics and high voltage breakdown\. Our capabilities are used to advance our understanding of electromagnetic and plasma effects on components and systems in support of the NNSA's stockpile stewardship program\. This includes the development of massively parallel electromagnetic codes as well as coupled Monte\-Carlo/particle\-in\-cell plasma radiation codes under the DOE Advanced Scientific Computing program\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
