Job Description


We are seeking a talented and motivated R&D Electrical Engineer to fulfill an important role within the Mk21 Fuze Systems Department to support development and test activities in the integration of the new Arming and Fuzing Assembly \(AFA\) into the Mk21 reentry vehicle\. This particular role focuses around operation of a custom built system tester which evaluates functional and electrical compatibility of the AFA with the warhead and missile\.

Everyday tasks/responsibilities include the following:

+ Work with system qualification engineer to determine requirements for system tester\.
+ Plan and document AFA functional test procedures coordinated with mechanical testing events\.
+ Take ownership in operating Fuze system tester through various test scenarios\.
+ Create tester quality assurance documentation demonstrating that the generated tester stimulus is accurate and repeatable\.
+ Diagnose and solve tester issues, including out in the field\.
+ Interface with multiple government contractors on joint test events\. Liaison with Sandia warhead systems team on joint testing\.
+ Execute large\-scale electrical integration testing in preparation for joint agency, integrated missile flight tests\.
+ Work with a large team of people across different agencies on an exciting, fast\-paced, multi\-year, multi\-million dollar program\.


+ Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering or relevant engineering field\.
+ Ability to travel up to 20%\.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a U\.S\. DOE Q security clearance\.


+ An active U\.S\. DOE Q\-level security clearance or equivalent \(DoD TS, etc\.\)\.
+ Knowledge and experience with large scale system testers
+ A working knowledge and experience with National Instruments hardware and software
+ An ability to program, operate, and document LabVIEW test sequences
+ Knowledge and experience in working on products for military applications
+ Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
+ Ability to work efficiently within a team environment
+ Ability to apply knowledge and ideas to solve engineering problems
+ Ability to communicate ideas and information clearly to other team members

Department Description:

The Mk21 Fuze Systems Department is part of the Sandia/California Weapons Systems Engineering Center, responsible for assuring the safety, reliability, and security of U\.S\. nuclear weapons\. The department has the specific responsibility for the systems engineering and integration, qualification, and deployment of a new Arming and Fuzing Assembly \(AFA\) for the Mk21 Air Force reentry vehicle and will reach production in 2022\. This is a large, well established program that is currently in full scale engineering development\.
