We are seeking a R&D S&E, Mechanical Engineer to provide nuclear safety assurance engineering to influence and lead change for nuclear weapon system and component design development, qualification, production and surveillance efforts as a member of Product Realization Teams for the B61\-12, W88, and W80\-4 programs\. As a core member of the PRT, you will ensure the safety theme’s integration with specific focus on areas of mechanical and electrical integrity and performance in normal and abnormal environments\.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
+ Engage with department colleagues and his/her PRTs will use their mechanical engineering experience on design analysis, modeling, and simulations, throughout the entire product lifecycle\.
+ Create and update safety themes and implementation, requirements and evidence of qualification to these requirements, and a defensible technical basis for product acceptance through analysis and physical based simulations\.
+ Have a broad technical knowledge and extensive network and resources in solving complex safety challenges\.
+ Lead the PRTs in execution of the assured safety process and influence positive change to our entire NS community\.
+ Actively participate in production and surveillance\-related activities to ensure safety\-critical aspects of the design are met\.
Occasional travel will be required

+ Requires a bachelor’s and master’s degree in relevant STEM discipline\.
+ Obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance and Sigma 15 clearance, which may require polygraph testing

+ Possess expertise with design of mechanical or electromechanical components
+ Are familiar \(based on demonstrated work experience\) with:
- Nuclear Weapon system and/or component design
- Nuclear Weapon safety architecture
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing \(GD&T\) skills
- Solid modeling/design drafting tools \(e\.g\., CREO, SolidWorks\)
- Mechanical and/or thermal finite element analysis tools
- Configuration management
+ Active DOE Q Clearance
