Job Description

:

Successful candidates will join a high performing technical team in the design, development, qualification, and delivery of highly specialized components and subsystems for national security applications\. These components are designed to meet demanding performance specifications, offer extremely high reliability, enable integration and interface to complex host systems, and meet stringent survivability requirements in adverse environments\. The technical team uses scientific theory and methods, materials science, advanced circuit modeling, simulation, and design engineering, mechanical design and engineering, prototype and development assembly and production, technical documentation, and technical judgment to design, develop, qualify and deliver product that meet the needs of both internal and external customers\. The role of the technologist is to support the engineering staff with hands\-on design, prototype and small batch device assembly, device testing, and device system integration of NGMs and their related calibration devices and equipment within the NGM lab and across the Nuclear Security Enterprise\.

Required:

99. Associate’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math \(STEM\) plus two or more years of directly related experience; or Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, or related STEM discipline\.
99. Able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-Level security clearance\.

Desired:

99. Experience/course work with analog/digital electrical circuits/circuit design and engineering
99. Experience/course work with mechanical design and engineering
99. Experience/coursework in system engineering \(electrical, chemical, mechanical, industrial\)
99. Experience/course work in application of the scientific method; gathering, analyzing and summarizing technical data for decision making purposes\.
99. Experience working hands\-on in a lab and in a production environment\.
99. Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work in a diverse team environment and collaborate with engineers and other technologists to solve problems\.
99. Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop and present ideas/results to the team\.
99. Desire to work in a fast\-paced/schedule driven environment with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deliverable deadlines\.
99. Basic knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement and their application\.
99. Active DOE Q\-Level security clearance\.

Department Description:

The Monitor Integration and Switchtube Components Lifecycle Engineering Department \(2731\) is an integrated science\- and engineering\-based design, development, and production organization that delivers two main products, neutron detectors and high\-voltage vacuum switches to support national security needs\. This posting is specific to the Neutron Generator Monitor \(NGM\) group, which has responsibility for the entire NGM product realization lifecycle and the devices used to calibrate NGMs \(controlatrons, portable neutron detectors, lead probes, x\-ray sources\) with opportunities in applied research, design engineering, test engineering, product and process engineering, systems engineering, industrial engineering, and tooling/equipment engineering\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
