Reports To: Data Warehouse Manager

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Pay Grade: Technology: JG-7

Rev: 1 - 2017

Terms of Employment:

12 months/230 days per year. Salary is at Technology Job Group 7 on the SAISD Compensation Plan on a Non-Chapter 21 contract. The salary range for the position is between $75,877.00 - $89,267.60 annually depending on experience.

Primary Purpose:

Maintain District data warehouse / business intelligence system to ensure efficient and effective data retrieval, aggregation and access of all District electronic information.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or Mathematics
* Thirty (30) semester hours of Computer Science course work
* Valid Texas drivers license with good driving record; must meet and maintain liability coverage eligibility
* Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee

Special Knowledge/Skills:

* Strong knowledge of various operating systems and productivity tools
* Knowledge of business and/or student type application programming and databases
* Knowledge of microcomputer hardware and peripheral devices
* Knowledge of database design
* Ability to normalize, de-normalize, extract and aggregate data
* Ability to problem solve, think critically and manage conflicts
* Strong communication, public relations and interpersonal skills
* Knowledge of data warehousing / business intelligence best practices
* Proficiently use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) 2008 R2 and 2012
* Write and maintain stored procedures and functions using T-SQL and SSMS
* Use aggregate functions in Microsoft SQL Server
* Create and maintain complex queries in Microsoft SQL Server using T-SQL
* Understand and use database schemas, tables, relationships, and constraints
* Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot conversion packages using Microsoft SQL Server Business Intelligence Design Studio
* Development experience with the Microsoft .NET Framework is a plus

Experience:

* Two (2) years as a Microsoft Database Administrator.
* Two (2) years in database design and analysis in Microsoft SQL Server.
* Two (2) years of data warehousing / business intelligence experience.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Database Administrator Management

* Design, develop, and execute ETL packages to convert client data using stored procedures, functions, and SQL scripts in a Microsoft SQL Server environment.
* Develop and modify stored procedures and T-SQL scripts in response to the needs of the Data Warehouse.
* Design, implement, and maintain new and existing database objects including tables, indexes, constraints, stored procedures, and user-defined functions in support of data conversion projects.
* Perform SQL Server administration activities (backup, restore, DBCC commands, indexing)
* Collect, organize and analyze information related to the development of database applications for specific user needs.
* Design, code, implement, maintain and document custom databases.
* Evaluate software and hardware suitability and applicability within District's data repositories.
* Provide database related technical assistance to staff programmers and junior database personnel.
* Perform data downloads from mainframe and other external sources to Data Warehouse.
* Keep Data Warehouse Manager informed of Data Warehouse services and activities.

Database Administrator Leadership

* Prepare systems cost analysis for SAISD users and recommend hardware and software programs for database access, control and input.
* Research, recommend and implement new, innovative database programming and software development programs.
* Communicate date and field clarifications with system staff.

Policy, Reports and Law

* Ensure compliance with local, state and federal policies and procedures for software additions or revisions.
* Compile, maintain and retain all physical and computerized reports, records and other required documents.

Working Conditions:

Mental and Physical Demands:

Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines and prolonged or irregular hours; Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing; Occasional: Lifting and carrying 10-25 pounds frequently, 25-40 pounds occasionally, more than 45 pounds infrequently with assistance; Pushing/pulling 10-35 pounds sporadically; May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others; Frequent district-wide and occasional statewide travel.

Environmental Factors:

Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise. Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.)
