Job Description:

Performs professional engineering work concerned with the planning, design, analysis, improvement, and installation of the following integrated systems: wheeled vehicles, tactical missiles/ground support equipment, and chemical shelters Possess thorough knowledge of industrial engineering concepts/methods in addition to a working knowledge of related engineering disciplines such as mechanical, chemical, electrical, environmental, and fire/safety engineering. Project assignments are of a highly complex nature requiring an independent ability to develop guidelines and objectives to establish/manage projects. Consults with and advises, major subordinate command (MSC) personnel and other high-level interservice/intraservice government and non-government activities.

Responsibilities:

Acts as a technical consultant and project coordinator for development and execution of both MSC and local projects being implemented at the depot site. These projects may include original design initiatives, prototype development, and/or major modifications of existing equipment/processes to include the formulation of recommendations of which processes should be government versus non- government sources. Normally required are realignment of shop facilities; determination of manpower skills/training; and design/modification/construction of necessary equipment. Incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of depot maintenance capabilities and capacities for wheeled vehicles, tactical missiles/ground support equipment, and chemical shelters. Coordinates and provides oversight of collateral/subordinate engineering/technical personnel assigned to and/or supporting projects. Provides recommendations as to what specific engineering/technical/trades resources are required to complete project initiatives.

Applies professional knowledge of industrial engineering and applies supporting knowledge of structural analysis, strength of materials, and electrical principles as relates to utilization, procurement and installation of equipment, machinery, and material handling systems. Incumbent prepares specifications, economic analyses, and technical data/procurement packages for equipment acquisition. Serves as directorate expert and provides guidance and assistance to AMCOM, MSCs, PMs, and depot officials regarding the Depot Maintenance Plant Equipment (DMPE) and Capital Investment Programs (CIP).

Independently performs complex engineering work in connection with the cost estimating/justification of tooling, equipment, facilities, and maintenance requirements in matters pertaining to manufacturing, remanufacturing, production, and painting/blasting. Conducts design analysis to determine whether: the item as designed can be manufactured by available production processes and methods; other materials can be substituted for those specified; tolerance specified can be modified in accordance with existing production processes; nonstandard parts specified can be replaced by standard parts; and other design changes can be made to improve manufacturability. Maintains awareness of and implements state-of- the-art technology and identifies/develops depot applications.

Coordinates the systematic capital equipment replacement, analysis, and development of equipment design layout and usage with functions of mission organizations. Performs studies relative to equipment design, layout, usage, cost and economy. Utilizes data to develop depot capital equipment replacement requirements. Provides for turnkey equipment installation including budgetary forecasts, equipment identification, floor space layouts, structural and materials analyses, procurement packages and coordinates delivery, installation, training, and acceptance.

Independently collects and analyzes operational data relative to methods, process standards, procedures, material flow, sequence of operation/work flow, space allocation and utilization, and material handling and storage.

Provides/furnishes staff guidance, advice, and oversight of industrial engineering concerns to heads of production divisions for artillery, tactical missiles, and ammunition maintenance/storage operations. Contacts, visits, and confers with both government and non- government operating officials and higher management officials at MSCs, contractors, and industrial firms to exchange and promote professional engineering ideas and concepts concerning production operations and methods to obtain maximum operating efficiency.

Advises on scientific and technical problems, approaches, solutions, trends and their impact on the mid-range and long-range depot plans and programs. Maintains liaison with personnel in mission functions and higher commands in affecting improvements in methods, procedures and the solutions of problem areas with the objective of attaining improved products at a minimum operational cost. Reviews and evaluates requirements for and determinations of the industrial production equipment, components and other materials in support of mission requirements utilizing engineering design principles and concepts.

Plans for future improvements and modernization with mission organizations. Develops and analyzes data relating to technological changes in terms of new production machinery, equipment and processes. Attains latest information on new equipment through manufacturer's shows, vendor visits, seminars, symposiums and printed materials. Performs research on the development of more efficient equipment; measuring the efficiency of various types of equipment, making comparisons and reporting data to various levels of management.

Qualifications:
TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience.

Bachelor's degree in related field and 5+ years related experience.

Must be able to obtain a Secret security clearance.
