CEWRD - CoPilot and Workflow Mgmnt - Principal Software Engineer (Job Number:429589)


SAIC has an opening for a COPILOT and Data Workflow Software Engineer to provide support for the enhancement and support of software components that make up the foundational framework for government client's Content Data Warehouse (CWH) and the Event Data Warehouse (EWH). The CWH and EWH software components include: Apache Accumulo, DATAWAVE, COPILOT, Timely, Apache Fluo, through optimization, automation, integration, scaling out, refinement, and customer engagement.

The Principal Software Engineer is responsible for contributing to projects in support of Content and Event Warehouse Research and Development (CEWRD) system development, improvement, and expansion.

- Develop, maintain and enhance complex and diverse software systems such as processing-intensive analytics; novel algorithms; extremely large datasets; real-time systems; or business management information systems, based upon documented requirements.
- Review and test software components for adherence to the design requirements and documents test results.
- Resolve software problem reports.
- Provide input to the software components of system design to include hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, and the use of COTS/GOTS software in lieu of new development.
- Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs application software.
- Conducts analysis and collaborates with subject matter experts in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for information storage, processing, presentation, manipulation, display, or reporting.
- End product may be special use, customized, or commercial software.
- Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops autonomous services, desktop applications, web applications, scripts, and utility programs.
- Ensures software standards are met.


Required Education and Experience:

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline and nine (9) years or more experience or more experience of progressively responsible experience in software development, software engineering, data warehousing, Big Data analytics, or data visualization.

- Or, a Masters and seven (7) years or more experience;
- Or a PhD and four (4) years related experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required; four (4) years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
- A minimum of nine (9) years' experience as a software engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity as the pertinent delivery order.
- Within the last nine (9) years, a minimum of six (6) years' experience programming in at least three (3) programming languages from this list:
- Java, JavaServer Faces, Java Applets. Java/JEE, JavaScript, Java Expression Language (JEXL), J1BX, Flex, EXT - JS, JSP, .NET, AJAX, SEAM, C, C++, PHP, Ruby / Ruby-on-Rails, SQL, MS SQL Server, MySQL, HTML, XML, Shell Scripting, Swing, Perl, Assembly, Python, TSS (TrouSerS), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Flash, Boost C++ Library, Qt, Spring, Hibernate, DHTML, Ant, MS Visual Studio, Eclipse, Apache Web Server, Tomcat, Subversion, Lucene, OpenNLP, Google Web Toolkit, Internet Information Services (IIS), Maven, Dreamweaver, VMWare, Hadoop, JBoss, WebLogic, Sleigh, XIX for creation of MSI packages, Clearcase, Puppet, Verilog, VHDL, Xilinx Development tools, Tilera, JUnit, CppUnit.

- Within the last nine (9) years, a minimum of six (6) years' experience each working with at least two (2) operating systems from this list:
- Linux (Redhat, Ubuntu, Fedora, Montavista), Windows 00/XP/Vista/7/8, Windows 2000/2003 Server, Mac OS X (Lion), Unix, SELinux, Android, iOS, micro- kernels.

- Extensive experience in the following technologies and areas:

- Software development in various environments, including leading and managing software development teams and working in multiple-organization environments, developing and presenting documentation and recommendations
- Designing multi-layered, complex systems, integrating COTS and open-source software, and developing complex data warehouse and workflow systems
- Demonstrated experience with COTS and open source tools


- Demonstrated experience with performance tuning, testing, and improving scalability for Burrito and COPILOT.
- Demonstrated experience with monitoring, debugging, and resolving data problems with the COPILOT running in the CWH production environment.
- Demonstrated experience with the DATAWAVE ingests framework and loading data into the CWH production systems.
- Demonstrated tuning experience and understanding of the configuration of the CWH production environment.
- Experience with Pressurewave
- Minimum 9 years of progressively responsible experience in software development, software engineering, data warehousing


- Candidate is required to currently possess a TS/SCI with Poly

- U.S. citizenship required
