CEWRD - Big Data Engineer, Principal: Service Scalability (Job Number:429561)

Description:



SAIC has an opening for a CEWRD - Big Data Engineer, Principal who will provide support for the enhancement and support of software components that make up the foundational framework for our government client's Content Data Warehouse (CWH) and the Event Data Warehouse (EWH). The CWH and EWH software components include: Apache Accumulo, DATAWAVE, COPILOT, Timely, Apache Fluo, through optimization, automation, integration, scaling out, refinement, and customer engagement.

Duties and responsibilities:

The Big Data Engineer is responsible for leading teams of big data engineers in support of Content and Event Warehouse Research and Development (CEWRD) system development, improvement, and expansion. Data Analysis techniques will be applied to large amounts of data and the candidate will use specialized algorithms, systems and processes to review, analyze, and present information in a form that is more meaningful for the end users.

Qualifications:
TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

- Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline and nine (9) years or more experience or more experience of progressively responsible experience in software development, software engineering, data warehousing, Big Data analytics, or data visualization.

- Or, a Masters and seven (7) years or more experience;
- Or a PhD and four (4) years related experience.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline; five (5) years' programming experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
- 9 years or more of experience in a technical environment.
- Within the last eight (8) years, a minimum of five (5) years' experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting system issues with one or more of the following: Apache Hadoop, Cloudera Distribution of Hadoop (CDH), and/or Hortonworks Hadoop Distribution (HDP).
- Within the last eight (8) years, a minimum of five (5) years' experience developing applications for and working with Apache Accumulo.
- Within the last five (5) years, a minimum of two (2) years' experience developing software within a Linux environment.
- Within the last five (5) years, a minimum of two (2) years' experience programming with Java and deploying applications developed with Java.
- Demonstrated understanding of distributed data structures and probabilistic data structures, to include the development and implementation of algorithms within and for the same.

DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

- Demonstrated experience with converting the monolithic DATAWAVE web service into much smaller, manageable microservices.
- Demonstrated experience with setup, monitoring, and configuration of the DATAWAVE web service for the EWH and CWH production environment.
- Demonstrated experience with contributing and integrating features into the DATAWAVE framework to support the EWH and CWH production systems.
- Demonstrated experience with configuring HAProxy to provide load balancing and basic query throttling.
- Demonstrated experience as an Apache Accumulo committer with contributions to Apache Accumulo project.
- Demonstrated tuning experience and understanding of the configuration of the EWH production environment.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT:

- Candidate is required to possess a TS/SCI with Poly
- Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required
