Scientific Programmer/Analyst (Job Number:429310)

Job Description:

Support the NASA Ocean Biology Processing Group at Goddard Space Flight Center in scientific software development and evaluation of processing algorithms for current and future satellite ocean color missions (e.g., PACE, VIIRS, MODIS, SeaWiFS).

Duties include:
- Developing new and improved algorithms for producing ocean color data products from satellite remote sensing radiometry (ultraviolet to short-wave infrared)
- Implementing processing algorithms in operational processing software
- Evaluating and validating the performance of the algorithms.
- Developing methodologies to assess and correct for instrumental artifacts in derived ocean color products
- Documenting work through publications and presentations at meetings and conferences.

Qualifications:
Required Skills:
- Relevant experience in the development of scientific data processing software using C in a UNIX/Linux environment.
- 5 years of experience with development and evaluation of algorithms for retrieval of geophysical parameters from satellite remote sensing data.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills.

Desired Skills:
- Experience with Fortran, C++, Python.
- Experience with ocean color data analysis, atmospheric correction techniques, bio-optical algorithms, or radiative transfer theory.

Education:
- Degree in Physical Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics (post graduate education will be considered for professional experience).
