Systems Administrator (CANES) (Job Number:429301)


SAIC has an open positions to provide engineering and technical on-site support and subject matter expertise to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Newport RI in support of the Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Service (CANES) of the U.S. Navy Common Submarine Radio Room (CSRR).

Job Overview:

Candidates will be primarily responsible for supporting technical troubleshooting for the Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Service (CANES) network that is maintained in the US Navy Common Submarine Radio Room (CSRR) laboratories. Based on commercial-off-the-shelf products and an open architecture, CANES is designed to replace and consolidate the functions of five separate legacy command, control, communications, computer, and intelligence systems into a single integrated software-based platform.

Job Description:

- Provide break/fix and installation IT support in a fast paced, high energy environment.
- Candidate will interface with US DoD customers regarding the proper approach to maintaining US Navy Afloat networks and the associated network components supporting data, voice and/or audio communication activities.
- Maintain technical expertise in all areas of computer hardware and software; applications performance and integration with the LAN
- Provide support to image, build and configure workstations and server against a provide baseline
- Test and performance balance workstations and servers, ensure applications operate IAW requirements and operating parameters provided by the program office
- Create test procedures documents to provide as evidence that assets perform to standards and requirements to meet the mission
- Be able to utilize Virtual Machine technology to duplicate and create multiple environments for testing and analyzing assets
- Build and maintain a working LAN for support of testing, developing and optimizing a mission based system
- Serve as system administrator to implement vulnerability patching and configuring of assets to DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGS)



Required Skills and Experience:

- An active Top Secret clearance is preferred. An active Secret clearance is required.
- Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience; OR, High School equivalent and 6+ years of experience.
- Security + CE (IAT Level II) certification is required.
- Microsoft Server Operating Systems (Win 7, Win 10).
- Virtual Machines Server & Clients - Hypervisor software.
- LAN Management Enterprise E-mail and Web applications.
- Application Loading/Installing and tailoring of Software OS and Application Testing, including test documentation and actual testing knowledge of cyber / IA STIGs


- Microsoft Windows 7 or 10 certification is desired.
- Microsoft Windows Server 2012 certification is desired.
- COMPTIA A+ is desired.


- Ability to work as part of a government/contractor team.
- Willingness to provide and seek assistance from team members.
Travel: Potential for travel, including international travel. Unexpired U.S. Passport required.
