Database Specialist (Job Number:427228)


SAIC is looking for a highly skilled Database Engineer to fulfill a role on an O&M Team at a client in Washington DC. The Database Engineer will work with cross functional Information Technology Services and business teams to:

- Ensure overall system and database availability, performance and implement physical database structures.
- Must be a self- motivated team player with a proven track record in a fast-paced workplace. Work with IT and business teams to identify technology solutions to achieve business results.
- Install and maintain applications, database management systems and perform database maintenance.
- Provide application performance and tuning support.


- Troubleshoot performance issues within application, web and database tiers Experience with Oracle databases (11g, 12c) including Pluggable Databases and ASM.
- Installing, configuring, and managing new databases in both RAC and non-RAC environments.
- Architecting, configuring, and managing Oracle High Availability (Experience with Data Guard).
- Install/Configure/Administer (12c) Oracle WebLogic Server and Oracle Fusion Middleware.
- Install/Configure/administer (12c) Fusion Middleware products on UNIX and Linux environments.
- Installation, configuration and maintenance of Grid Control 12c to monitor all the hardware, applications.
- Maintenance of Oracle Internet Directory, Oracle OAM and synchronization between OID and Microsoft Active Directory Work with J2EE framework components including JDBC, JMS, and JNDI.
- Tune Java heap size for the appropriate applications. Write Linux/UNIX Shell Scripts to automate Linux/Unix scheduled jobs.
- Research, assess, download and apply patches to Oracle databases and Fusion Middleware applications. Analyze root cause of install- related issues and provide solutions.
- Resolve install related issues with Oracle support via service requests.
- Conversant with multi-tier cluster configuration setup and architecture with Oracle WebLogic.
- Coordinate with business analysts, developers, and DBA's to ensure optimal solution, performance and reliability


- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science / Information Technology or equivalent experience.


- Oracle Database Certification is a plus.


- Candidate must have at minimum 2+ years of experience.

- Very strong Linux (Oracle and Red Hat) installation, administration and troubleshooting skills including: Job control, soft and hard links, distinctions between the kernel and the shell, shell scripting
- Experience with installation, administration and troubleshooting in a Linux environment of the following (BI Publisher, Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle databases, OAM, OID, ODI & EDQ)
- Excellent knowledge of WebLogic server and SOA fusion middleware products.
- Experience administrating WebLogic/J2EE environment.
- Excellent understanding of Oracle WebLogic and Fusion Middleware architecture and deployments.
- Experience deploying and configuring a WebLogic domain in a cluster configuration.
- Experience with WLST/XML/Java/J2EE.
- Good knowledge of UNIX/LINUX environment.
- Excellent understanding of Linux file systems.
- Excellent knowledge of networking under Linux environment.
- Working knowledge of LDAP-based Identity Management systems such as Active Directory and OID.
- Experience in Oracle Database administration.
- Knowledge of Oracle Applications Development Framework (ADF).
- Knowledge of OEM (Cloud Control) 12c/13c required.
- Good technical skills and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work under a high-pressure environment.
- Experience in implementation and maintenance of 'High Availability' Oracle Databases and Oracle Application Architecture.
- Candidate shall perform the Critical/Security Patch Update (CPU) quarterly and any other patches required for Oracle Enterprise database and Fusion Middleware products
