The Staff Nurse is a registered nurse who utilizes the nursing process to assess, coordinate, facilitate and deliver nursing care to patients utilizing the outpatient infusion clinic for multiple services. The top patient care responsibilities to include, but not limited to: comprehensive patient assessment and management skills; timely insertion of PICC lines; administration of intravenous infusions for hydration, blood products, antibiotic therapy or administration of other substances for one time or serial replacement therapy such as potassium; management of potential side effects related to infusion therapy (i.e. blood reaction), and possible coordination of care with other services. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the staff nurse is also responsible for overall scheduling and coordinating schedules for infusions; documentation of treatments provided; communication with referring providers and case managers. The infusion nurse is also responsible for day to day running of the infusion service. The infusion nurse will need expertise to include, but not be limited to IV insertion; phlebotomy; and central line access (PICCs, Porta Caths); care and management of PICC insertion sites; use of a variety of IV antibiotics; transfusion of blood products and new infusion treatments for sub-specialties such as neurology, rheumatology, dermatology; PICC and IV certification preferred/willing to train in PICC competencies/certification.


Graduate from an accredited school of nursing recognized by the VA (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

A current, unrestricted RN licensure from any state or territory of the U.S.

Demonstrated abilities in establishment of priorities and time management

Excellent interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a diverse interdisciplinary environment

Knowledge of Patient Education (adult learning) principles

Required to work some weekends


Oncology nursing experience

One (1) year of PICC line insertion experience within the last two (2) years and/or one (1) year experience in an outpatient setting infusion center within the last years (2) years

Experience with multiple types of IV access

BSN from an accredited school of nursing recognized by the VA (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

BLS and ACLS certification through the American Heart Association
