Job Description

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Programmer (RP) for the Department of Computer Science in the School of Arts & Sciences. This position fills two major roles: supporting a master's degree program in data sciences, and programming for research projects in the computer science department and other departments that contract with the Laboratory for Computer Science Research (LCSR) to support their work. The Research Programmer will serve as a member of the LCSR Software Engineering Group. The RP authorizes applications and leads projects in support of a wide variety of research, administrative and instructional activities within the department, the University, and for external clients of LCSR.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
* Provides expertise advice on advanced computing tools such as Hadoop, Spark, and Openstack.
* Provides administration of complex research-oriented software and programming for those systems.
* Gathers specifications, design, code, test and analyze software programs prepared independently or collaboratively with other members in a team environment, under leadership of the faculty and senior technical staff.
* Utilizes project management tools to track the status of projects, communicate with team members, coordinate and assign tasks.
* Develops (in coordination with outside providers such as OARC and various cloud providers) infrastructure for large-scale student use of data analytics tools such as Hadoop .
* Installs and runs software and systems, and provides specialized programming expertise in these areas.
* Programs for these systems, but in many cases will work with faculty and grad students in developing programs rather than doing it themselves in Spark.
