Medical Technologist- Laboratory

Rio Grande Regional Hospital's 24 Hour Emergency Care is an off-site emergency department located at 5100 W. Expressway 83 in McAllen, Texas. At Rio Grande Regional Hospital's 24 Hour Emergency Care patients can expect fast, convenient care with experienced board-certified physicians. All lab work and imaging (digital x-ray, CT scan, ultrasound) are performed and processed on-site to expedite care. An Emergency Department physician will interpret radiology and lab results, discuss your diagnosis, and review follow-up care. Emergencies are never planned, but when an emergency happens, Rio Grande Regional Hospital's 24 Hour Emergency Care - offers superior medical care, close to home.

Rio Grande Regional Hospital 24 Hour Emergency Care Center is currently looking for a Medical Technologist- Laboratory.


The Pathology and Clinical Lab Medical Technologist is a Bachelor's prepared Medical Technologist who obtains patient specimens, performs diagnostic tests, interprets and reports results. The technologist performs quality control testing and equipment maintenance, maintains inventory, and assists in training new employees and students. Technologists may specialize in hematology, blood bank, serology/urinalysis, chemistry or microbiology, or may be generalist proficient in all areas of the laboratory.

1. Demonstrates superior clinical laboratory skills and critical thinking

a. Performs technical procedures proficiently in accordance with laboratory standards.

b. Verifies the validity of patient test results through the evaluation of quality control values prior to reporting patient test results.

c. Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration procedures related to each test performed.

d. Resolves technical problems, ensures remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from laboratory's established performance specification.

e. Ensures proper specimen collection, identification, labeling and tagging of patients and samples.

f. Is knowledgeable of factors that influence test results.

g. Reports critical results to appropriate personnel

h. Performs CAP Surveys for all testing performed.

i. Assumes supervisory duties when needed

j. Assumes responsibility of being member of wellness team.

k. Performs phlebotomy accurately and efficiently 95% of time

* Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, biological sciences or related

field of study.
* Certification with ASCP or AMT.
* A candidate with a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology has one year from date of hire to obtain Certification.
