Job Description

There is an immediate need for a Linux Systems Administrator for a very prestigious institution in West Suburban Chicago. The candidate will have strong Linux, open source background with an interest in working for research facilities or a higher education environment with strong Scripting background, strong soft skills and personality to fit in.

Qualifications and Essential Job Functions

  • BS or BA degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • 5+ years experience as a professional Linux system administrator; recent versions of RHEL, CentOS, or Scientific Linux preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability working with medium to large environments, preferably 200 or more systems.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and test Linux server deployments and system services.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot hardware, software and networking issues on Linux Servers and workstations in a multiuser and multi-system environment.
  • Experience with open-source applications and support.
  • Skilled with architecture and design.
  • Experience understanding technical concepts and communicating them to others in non-technical terms.
  • Extensive Shell, Python Scripting, or Perl skills.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience with virtualization technology preferred.
  • Experience with monitoring tools (Nagios, etc.) a plus.
  • Experience working with configuration management tools (Puppet) a plus.
