Job Description

To design, develop and implement into production connectors that meet or exceed customer expectations.
This applies to new products as well as modifications and extensions to existing products. With some guidance from Sr. Project Engineers, Engineering Supervisors or Engineering Managers, develops new connector designs handling all phases required to bring connector concepts into production.
Generate detailed 3D and 2D CAD information independently or within a design team to define product design requirements for tooling and manufacture.
Verifies product design.
Checks manufacturing drawings for completeness and accuracy.
Defines product test requirements.
Performs engineering tests and analyses including tolerance stacks and strength of materials.
Submits product for screening and qualification testing to the reliability lab.
Coordinates new product development, debug and release.
Follows all product development steps, supplies tooling groups with necessary drawings for quoting and tool build.
Assists and supports manufacturing in the debug process.
Responsible for follow-up, documentation, publishing and expediting all action items related to product engineering New Product Development Process deliveries.
Follows and ensures adherence to company and engineering procedures and document control requirements.
Interfaces with internal departments (manufacturing, quality, reliability lab, program management, sales and marketing) to ensure design objectives are met in a timely manner and assists by providing technical assumptions and requirements, product information, engineering samples and technical advice.
Also interfaces with suppliers and customers.
Understand, support, and contribute to Molex Total Quality Management (TQM), Quality (QS9000), and Environmental Management (ISO14000) Systems by following approved policies and procedures. Perform other related duties as required by management.


Required: Bachelors degree in Engineering (ME, EE etc.) or equivalent work experience in a technical field.

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS Required: Eight (8) or more years of previous design experience.

Must be able to perform statistical tolerance analysis using coordinate and geometric tolerances.

Knowledge of metals, plastics, adhesives and the basic manufacturing required for their use.

CAD skills and knowledge (2D and 3D).

Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to others.

Demonstrated team work skills.

Project management skills that demonstrate the ability to set goals and priorities in order to complete projects in a systematic and timely manner.

Preferred:Five (5) or more years previous experience in connector design.

Three (3) to five (5) years experience in connector design.

Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC).

Experience with finite element modelling.

A strong understanding of contact physics and design for manufacturability.

Previous supervisory or mentoring experience.
