Chassis Design Engineer - Data Center
Maumelle, AR or Lisle, IL

Company is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Chassis Design Engineer to design and develop modifications to the Business Unit (BU) products. In this role, you will lead the product development process and guide the activities of a product development team. You will manage product modifications through the complete implementation process to develop designs that meet or exceed product performance specifications. This role interfaces with management, sales, and customers. In this role, you will lead the drive to complete projects in development, 3D Modeling, 2D Drawings, engineering changes, technical documents, product testing, etc.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop new electromechanical products, including rack level systems, chassis enclosures, and miscellaneous related mechanical hardware. Support interface of Company products to customer and partner company systems.
  • Lead new product development efforts executing Product Development Phase Gate Process from development of the product concept through volume production while adhering to project schedule Design includes all aspects of product development such as: 3D Modeling, 2D Drawings, design layouts, engineering changes, technical documents, tolerance analysis, product testing, etc. Work with manufacturing engineering to develop manufacturing processes utilizing the latest 3D CAD modelling techniques and other Design for Manufacturability (DFM) tools.
  • Provide technical support to customers, suppliers, and inside product marketing personnel.
  • Use risk reduction tools to perform FEA, model simulation etc. for design analysis is expected. Utilize a working knowledge of material costs and manufacturing processes to determine the impact on various design attributes. Provides input to the DFMEA analysis of the product as required.
  • Performs design verification activities to ensure that design meets the specifications of the customer, UL requirements, and environmental testing.

Position Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years' design experience with datacenter rack and chassis-level assembly.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with Minor courses or degree in Electrical Engineering.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Design experience with racks, chassis, shelves, and backplane mechanics.
  • Extensive high precision sheet metal design.
  • Understanding of computer chassis fasteners and their best intended use.
  • Material and manufacturing knowledge such as stamping and forming sheet metal.
  • Able to perform tolerance analysis.
  • Proficient in solid modelling experience to generate 3D models & 2D drawings and knowledge of drafting standards and design layout
  • Intermediate skill with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and Powerpoint
  • Ability to work independently and remotely and to effectively communicate with global cross functional teams.
