Manager Application Development Middleware Integration
$125-140K +bonus

*Can be located in Alpharetta, GA or Arden Hills, MN*

The IT Manager, Application Development and Support position leads a centralized development team responsible for Middleware technologies and application integrations. As part of the shared services division, you will support several major initiatives by performing integration development and support. This position leads a large team including core staff and contractors, both on and off-shore.

Technologies used include data integration tools (Informatica and IBMs BPM), WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere MQ, Microsoft IIS, Apache Tomcat, Java and Scripting tools such as Jython and JACL. The Middleware department is also responsible for administration support related to Informatica, BPM, WebSphere Application Server and MQ in non-production and production environments, supporting all application development efforts.

Organization is currently assessing our future state integration strategy in order to support our digital transformation requirements. This role will work very closely with the enterprise architecture team in developing a technical plan and implementing key future state integration capabilities and technologies.

The person in this role provides leadership for those involved in the development, design and optimization of one or more information technology and systems functions supporting company business processes and technical information systems platforms. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, analysis, selection and modification of enterprise systems, application software, installation of network hardware/software and database management, preparation of budgets, schedules and feasibility studies. Provides direction for the effort required to protect the companys data, tools and information systems. May be involved in planning and coordinating all aspects of projects specific to their respective area of assignment. Utilizes subject matter knowledge of user group for practical application of system characteristics. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Sustains information systems results by defining, delivering, and supporting information systems; auditing application of systems.
  • Assesses information systems results by auditing application of systems.
  • Enhances information systems results by identifying information systems technology opportunities and developing application strategies.
  • Safeguards assets by planning and implementing disaster recovery and back-up procedures and information security and control structures.
  • Accomplishes financial objectives by determining service level required; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analysing variances; initiating corrective action.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
  • Manages the implementation and maintenance of disaster recovery plans and activities in assigned areas. Maintains current contact information for all employees in applicable areas and communicates with non-recovery employees during a disaster.
  • Fosters the highest level of commitment among our people through transparent communication about business challenges, successes and results.

Required Qualifications:

  • Typically requires: Bachelors degree and at least 8 years of information technology or related experience OR,
  • Masters degree and at least 6 years of information technology or related experience OR,
  • At least 10 years of information technology or related experience.
  • At least 2 years of management experience.
  • Possesses good understanding of insurance, financial services and Company operations.
  • Experience leading or managing application development teams.
  • Strong critical thinking and analysis skills with the ability to define value, drive efficiency, and develop technical roadmap.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience leading teams to build integrations across a complex system landscape including home grown applications, packaged applications, Legacy applications, SaaS applications etc. Cloud hosted applications built on IaaS and PaaS will be part of our future landscape.
  • Familiarity with challenges building integrations with packaged, Legacy and SaaS applications.
  • Experience working with integration platforms and tools including ESB s, API management tools, message oriented Middleware, ETL, and managed FTP integrations.
  • Familiarity with hybrid integration platforms and iPaaS solutions.
  • Experience with full API life cycle management - build, document, consume, and manage API s.
  • Experience building integrations with modern architecture styles including micro services and event driven architectures
  • Experience developing and delivering integrations in an agile/SAFE methodology
  • Experience working with any of the leading integration platforms such as IBM, Mule Soft, TIBCO, Oracle, Web Methods etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in Middleware and integration technologies.
  • Ability to initiate and implement continuous improvement of development and support.
  • Previous experience with managing onshore/offshore contractors.

Physical Requirements:

  • Normal office environment.

Work may extend beyond normal business hours as business needs dictate.
