BI Report Developer
Northbrook, IL
$75-85K

This is a position is for an Application Developer/Business Intelligence Engineer for the Reporting Team in Investment Technology. Candidate will design/architect, build, and support reports and dashboards within the MicroStrategy platform. The Reporting Team supports/develops ad-hoc and batch reporting to support the overall Investment Department. Tools in use include MicroStrategy, Crystal Reports, Business Objects, and Tableau. Reports are developed against Oracle & SQL Server database platform.

The position will be responsible for:

  1. Involvement in all phases of software development life cycle on Information Delivery projects and initiatives: requirements, planning, analysis, design, development, unit and integration testing, implementation and production support.
  2. Create complex reports/dashboards using filters, metric dimensionalities, prompts, hierarchies, consolidations, custom groups, and free form SQL.
  3. Build and maintain MicroStrategy schema objects (attributes, facts, hierarchies, tables, views, etc.) and public objects (metrics, filters, templates, reports, dashboards, etc.).
  4. Maintenance, development, enhancement and administration of complex Business Intelligence queries in support of accounting, trading, portfolio management, performance measurement and asset analytic functions using MicroStrategy and/or Crystal Reports.
  5. Provides daily production support for the reporting environment, and works across support teams to effectively manage and resolve production issues.
  6. Provide exceptional support to the clients in the Investment group.
  7. Works closely with other members of project teams to estimate work and create project schedules.
  8. Maintenance and enhancement of the support documentation library.
  9. Work with software vendors to open defects, log issues and seek resolutions and/or workarounds.
  10. Work with other technology teams during Infrastructure and/or software upgrades and perform impact analysis.
  11. Manage MicroStrategy object promotion to non-production and production environments using MicroStrategy Object Manager and packages and perform unit testing on all object modifications.

Qualifications:

Computer Proficiency: (computer skills needed to do the job)

Minimum 3-5 years of IT development experience. Minimum 2-3 years of Oracle development. 1-2 years of MicroStrategy Administration/Architect and/or Business Objects Administration and Architect experience.

  8. Advanced SQL knowledge using Oracle and SQL Server
  9. Experience with Investment industry is a plus

Experience Required: (type of experience and number of years required)

At least 3 years of software development experience and involvement in all phases of software development life cycle. Past work experience in an investment company is preferred but not required. Individual must demonstrate initiative, clear ownership and team responsibilities. Must be an excellent individual contributor but also a good team player. Candidate must assimilate new information quickly and have strong analytical skills. Must systematically analyze problems to resolve issues and answer questions, and be highly responsive to production issues. Development experience in .NET is a plus.

Education:

College degree preferred.

Major preference: Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Finance
