MySQL DBA - 2nd Shift
Chicago, IL
$90-110K +Bonus 

*Shift is from 2pm-10pm or 3pm to 11pm Monday - Friday*.

Prestigious Organization is seeking a MySQL DBA for a 2nd shift role. Under general supervision implements data transformation and verification scripts and monitors their execution on a regular basis. Maintains database health across all production and development systems, including Real Time and EOD market databases, as well as replicated databases such as user accounts, positions, statistics, etc. Troubleshoots and addresses issues. This is a 2nd shift position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs a combination of the following duties according to departmental guidelines:

  • Implements Scripting tasks which include data download, extraction, parsing, transformation, loading into databases, copying data between databases, verifying and addressing data synchronization and integrity.
  • Participates in database design, monitors database performance, deploys new releases, and completes maintenance requirements.
  • Owns the centralized task execution engine Rundeck. Builds conditional job execution trees according to task specifications. Maintains the DB Registry resource database.
  • Develops solutions according to design specifications that are thorough, accurate, and conform to development standards.
  • Independently researches and resolves complex technical problems.
  • Analyzes and recommends technologies and tools to improve efficiency and quality of the data warehousing and management process.
  • Self-manages assigned projects to ensure successful completion in designated time frames.
  • May participate in mentoring and knowledge-sharing with less-experienced team members in certain areas of expertise.
  • Participates in normal support coverage rotation as scheduled. Provides support and maintenance for one or more moderately complex applications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience:

  • 4-8 years of experience in database management and Scripting in a professional environment.Prior experience with financial industry systems preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced level skills with the following languages and/or technologies required:
    • Python and Bash Scripting skills are required. C# or Java is a plus.
    • MySQL administration. Familiarity with distributed NoSQL database technologies such as Cassandra is a plus.
    • Experience with Rundeck or a similar task execution engine is a plus.
    • Demonstrated ability to write scripts that interface with SOAP and REST web services.
    • Appreciation of performance conscious design and tuning principles.
    • Automation advocate.
  • Advanced analysis and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to:

  • Effectively learn and use new design concepts, tools, and methodology to support the needs of the business.
  • Translate business requirements into technical details.

  • Collaborate successfully and develop productive working relationships with other members of the Systems staff.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent in experience.
