Rentrak measures 85,000 movie screens in 18,000 theaters in 36 countries. That means that every time a customer purchases a movie ticket our system processes that data. Rentrak measures viewing on over 100 million televisions through the United States. That means that every time one of those viewers presses a button on their remote control, Rentrak gets that data.

Our measurement doesn't stop with big screens or home televisions. We get data for internet television, mobile devices and video rentals. So when we say our engineers deal with BIG DATA, we mean that Rentrak processes more transactions a day than every major credit card company combined.

The Junior Software Engineer - Analytical Solutions works under close supervision of more senior engineers or Managers to support Rentrak's development, project management, and data science teams. The Junior Software Engineer relies heavily on instruction or pre-established guidelines to complete tasks assigned by managers or more senior Software Engineers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

- Provides technical support and training to project team members

- Follows the Development best practices and standards: (unit tests, code reviews, estimates, release procedures)

- Ability to complete bug fixes and small enhancements

- Understanding of system framework and architecture

- Pull in senior resources for design reviews and code reviews

- Pair with development resources where appropriate to gain system knowledge and training.

- Gain understanding of product business rules / industry needs

- Perform simple Linux system administration tasks (e.g., creating AWS EC2 instances)

- Perform simple database administration tasks (e.g., defining and creating new tables)

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor's degree in a related area or at least 2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

- Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures.

- Knowledge of object oriented programming languages such as C++, Java, Perl, etc. Knowledge of Linux/Unix.

- Knowledge of SQL.
